'old Style' Sailor Nibs Same As 'new Style'?

Hello everybody

 

Okay so I have a question!

 

I'm considering a Sailor Pro Gear demonstrator (large not the sapporo/slim).

I'm thinking of getting a HF nib.

 

Reason for that is because I used to own an older Sailor with a HF nib that I absolutely loved!

The nib on the demonstrator I'd like to buy is such nib:

 

 

 

 

 

I'd like to know if an HF on the old stlye nib is the experience as the new designed HF nibs!

Anyone who owns both and could provide more info and/or a writing sample?

 

I was so satisfied with the old style HFnib (didn't realy like the pen)

The new style nibs have less round tipping. They are ground with more angles so it has a smaller sweet spot and more feedback generally.

Older nibs often have nice round tipping. The newer ones all have these (imo annoying) facets ground in the top of the ball giving the pen a slight zoom nib aspect. More noticeable on the B nibs. You can see it with a loupe. The booty of the tipping is nice and round but the top has a nose ground into it. Even my B nibs write fine lines if you hold them at a high angle and has a lot of pencil-like feedback. If you hold the pen low or overhand like a monkey it writes broad, wet and as smooth as can be. Contributing to this odd situation is the steep angle of the foot they grind into the nibs (WHY?) and the fact that all their pens are so small.

 

The upside is that you can get quite an expressive line with this odd wedges shaped tipping.

 

 

 

 

I would love their nibs if they bent them up like Waverely nibs or Sheaffer Triumph nibs. I have burning desire to either smooth the top of that nib or bend it up so I could write more on the a$$ end of that tipping

Can you try one out locally? I have both an HF and a B, new style and love them both. The B especially has a pronounced sweet spot that it's easy to miss- sometimes I'm having an "off" day and miss the sweet spot and it's a horrid writing experience. In general though, I love the pens so much that I've hardly used anything else since I got them a couple weeks ago and they work spectacularly well with my handwriting, being a complete joy to write with.

 

The HF has very little sweet spot to speak of- I think it's mainly an issue on the M and B nibs, which is what others have said as well. I haven't had any issue at all with angles etc with my F and I've written with it in less than ideal conditions (on uneven surfaces etc.)

I am confused. The photographs above show a one-tone 14K nib and a 2-tone 21K nib.

 

Are the old-style nibs all one-tone and 14K, while the new ones are 2-tone and 21K?

 

I received my Pro Gear Slim two weeks ago, and it has a one-tone 14K nib, so does that mean I have the old style?

The engraving is different on the "old style" as well.

Precisely my experience with the Broad. I got so tired of not enjoying it that I ground it myself into a cursive italic. Now, its sees some he, finally.
