I Hate Dot Grid Ruling!

Neither do I like the dot grid. I benefit little from the intended guidance, and it obscures my punctuation.

I, also, dislike that people use "they", "their", and "them" as singular pronouns. "Loan" is not a verb. "Pleaded" is not a word ! I invested considerable effort in learning English. I is disappointing that so few people speak it. I, also, dislike ranting.

Something tells me this is sarcasm...

I have used quadrille paper in the past at my former employer, I guess it's okay. The biggest thing is that it seems to have some sort of sizing in it that makes fountain pen ink less prone to feathering. (at least the paper I used) I can't recall ever using dot grid paper. I don't really have any specific use for either at the moment.

I have been using a Rhodia A5, dot grid, (top twin ring) pad for most of the past week for writing.

I am finding I will start the first line right on the a line of dots.

The 2nd line of writing will fall in place with the dots part way up the character.

The 3rd line again will fall on a line of dots.

If I continue all of the way down the page, then this works out to being similar to having a 7.5 mm line spacing.

I really prefer the 7 mm line spacing but to my knowledge the standard lined Rhodia pad has 8mm spacing.

I find myself debating if the Rhodia A5 dot grid and lined paper is the same. I suspect it is, but for some reason I think the dotted grid, vs the printed lines, gives the illusion that the paper is different as well.

I've actually gotten used to dot grids and I'm starting to like it. I still mess up and start on the wrong line sometimes though.

I don't hate dot grid...in face i WANT to like it. I just don't like the 5mm spacing that comes with the premium papers. If they would do a 7mm spacing I'd be on board in a heartbeat! Ah well :D I'll stick with my lined Rhoda paper!

I loved the dot grid, long before it got to be the in thing. I love to write, diagram, and draw in my notebooks and find the dots to be just the right guidance. I’m sorry for all of you who are having a hard time finding the right paper for yourselves. It used to be an agonizing search for me to find dot grid paper, so I know how annoying it is.

Dot grid ruling only has nice things to say about you. All of you.

This is the thanks it gets....

I only bought my first few dot grid pads this year and they were a little weird to get used to at first but now I don't really think about it. That said, I'm pretty unfussy when it comes to paper anyway. I always liked college rule and graphs so I expected to like dots as well. I do. They're fine. Really, whatever's within reach is fine. Legal pad, printer paper, Rhodia, slightly stained paper towel... okay maybe not but you get the idea.

The only thing I find distracting are lines or grids that are very bold and dark. Just about anything else is fair game with me.

I'll admit that I'm with ISW_Kaputnik. My absolute preference is for blank, unruled pages. But those are much harder to find for larger journals and still have decent paper for fountain pens (and also still be affordable). So I just suck it up and get lined paper, for the most part.

I actually don't dislike dot grid paper nearly to the level of graph paper, especially for journals. I do like graph paper for some things: charting needlework patterns or figuring out fabric yardage, and for times when I'm writing out instructions (especially for myself) strangely enough. I did have to buy one of the little #10 size Rhodia pads with graph paper because I didn't have a choice one time. As for dot grid paper? I'm really pretty ambivalent. And I have one Clairefontaine notebook that has the French ruled paper (the plan being to try and improve my penmanship a bit) -- but I've never used it....

To the person who started this whole thread: If you don't like dot grid paper, don't use it.... And don't buy more. Really, just common sense.

Perhaps I am getting used to the dot grid. I spent a morning sketching some room layouts. I do like the paper. I just ordered a few more A5 notebooks.

Hate is such a harsh word. I don't particularly like dot but until recently I didn't like grid. Bought some grid loose leaf and must say I am enjoying the format. Like mentioned before the secret is feint ruling no matter which form. Some Rhodia seem to be very dark ruling which I avoid but the feint I don't mind. Might try a dot ruled again soon.

I would say lends or lent depending on whether you intended present or past tense.

But loan as a verb, although it sounds vaguely wrong to me, has been accepted as correct usage for some time, and seems to be particularly common in business usage. If it ever was a battle, it has been lost by now.

Haha! I'm relieved! I thought I would be the only person to really detest dot grids! I prefer blanco paper... pure freedom!

"Lended?" What was I thinking?

Thanks.

I love dot grid for note taking, specifically math and engineering. Mainly because when printed lightly i can ignore them, but when i need them to keep my writing straight on the page i can use them. I cant stand grid paper because it feels to intrusive. I usually print my own dot grid in very light grey on decent laser printer paper for all my notebooks.

For general writing i just use college ruled paper. As much as i would love to write on unlined paper, i cant write in a straight line for the life of me.

Take blank paper.

If you prefer blank paper, use as-is

If you prefer dots, go to Incompetech and print your preferred dot pattern.

If you prefer grid, " and print your preferred grid pattern.

If you prefer lines, " and print your preferred line pattern.

If you prefer blank, but need guides, see above.

If you prefer insane, go to Incompetech and print this --
