150 Confederation Brown - Scriptus 2017 Le Ink By Kwzi

Scriptus is the name of the Toronto’s Pen Show and Writing Show. Since 2017 Scriptus organizers together with KWZI create a LE ink for the show. For Scriptus 2017, show participants will be able to get “150 Confederation Brown”,crafted to celebrate the 150 years of Canada becoming a Confederation (proclaimed on July 1, 1867).

I received a sample of the ink and since Claudia revealed the name of the ink and it's no longer top secret I'll share my scans and thoughts.

The ink is saturated and it has interesting hue that's highly paper dependent. On some papers it's more brownish while on others greener. Nib width and the pen influence color as well. I would say that the flow is nice. Lubrication is satisfying. Drying time, especially on absorbent papers is very good (less than 5 seconds). Of course on Rhodia it'll take longer to dry. It's not water resistant.

Great review, and a really interesting colour! This should be a regular colour instead of an LE.

Hmm... looks or sounds similar to Sailor Rikyu-cha. I like Rikyu-cha (have an opened bottle of it), but I'm not crazy about it.

 

There's something about this ink that's both appealing and ...not appealing. It's weird. Therefore... I like it!

Reminds me a bit of FPN member Pharmicist's old sepia-toned IG ink Terra Incinerata. Which he even admitted was a bit greener tinged than he liked.

So, while it's an interesting color, I'll pass. But I suspect that Claudia will hoard any leftover bottles from the show, because this is a murky color right up her alley....

Much more of a sepia than a golden brown, the color I was expecting. Not bad, but doesn't look like it stands out vs similar inks like Iro Yama-guri and R&K Sepia.

One of the wonderful qualities of this ink, is that is EXTREMELY paper dependent. I am sure there is a combination with the right pen/paper that would make it look Sepia, but the term "Sepia" is not the first thing that comes to mind when you first open a bottle of Confederation Brown.

 

There is a prevalent "olive" tone regardless of hue... at the green side of the spectrum is more olive-green, and at teh brown side of the spectrum is a deep olive-brown.

Its funny how inks work like that. Based on pictures alone, the product in visvamitra's photos would probably get a sample purchase but never a full bottle, while the product in yours would be a daily use ink for me as I adore those murky greens. Thanks for sharing.

I have a small sample of this ink and can confirm it bears no resemblance to Yama-guri or R&K Sepia.

 

The closest ink I own that I can compare it to is my much coveted Sailor Brown Algae
