Changing The Nib

Recommended Posts

I have many 146...

I want to swap différent nib size on my pen as i can do on my Pelikan M800

I wouldnt advise it unless you are ready to suffer a loss of pen or nib unit

I stick to the originals in MBs

for nib variety on the same pen I go to Pelikans

Enjoy your pens

Have a nice day

Je ne comprends pas bien l'intérêt de changer les plumes, Philippe, si tu as plusieurs stylos ... tu peux directement changer de stylo, non ?

A moins que tu n'ai des plumes seules que tu veuilles mettre sur un stylo ?

(Sorry for these french words, ... it seems more practical to talk with a mother-tongue member :) )

Some of us Americans speak and read French. Proper writing, is a different question, of course.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Thank a Veteran.

I recently acquired two used Montblanc pens. One is a relatively new 146 in rose gold with a broad nib, the other is a 40ish year old 149 that also has a broad nib. I am considering attempting to change the nib on the 146, I really don't want to mess with the 149 since it's 40 years old, has the cool split ebonite feed, and I would just feel silly messing with that. However, putting a medium or a fine nib in the 146 could make it into a slightly more usable pen, and since it isn't quite as thick as the 149 I think it could be a bit more comfortable for certain longer writing sessions. I found this YouTube video that I think could be extremely helpful for anyone attempting this procedure.

In the video, he goes over the different tools that you'll need to disassemble a 146 or 149, he also goes over how to remove the nib and feed from the housing without damaging it. I found it quite interesting and I may try it at some point.

@RebelWriter119 Thank you for posting this video link, one of the best reasons for thread necromancy.
