My Lamy 2000 Experience.

I remember in an old post somewhere here in the forums that someone mentioned that Lamy in Heidelberg, Germany offers a lifetime warranty on the Lamy 2000 and that they will repair or replace it if anything breaks or goes wrong with it. However, that particular person also mentioned something about the Lamy lifetime warranty being void if one were to use any other types of ink brand in the fountain pen besides the Lamy inks. I would like to establish whether or not this is true and whether Lamy in Heidelberg, Germany will offer a lifetime warranty on this particular fountain pen or whether they will void the lifetime warranty if one uses ink brands other than Lamy inks in the pen.

I've contacted Lamy directly, as it seems the most accurate information will be from the company itself. I'll post their reply here when it comes through.

Lamy does restore old pens but not for free.

In Germany (where I do live) it is sometimes cheaper to buy a new one than to go for a the Lamy service, because it is often possible to get new pens for a great deal.

With a new one this is different.

I would think that with a newer Lamy 2000 that Lamy repair in Heidelberg would either fix the pen for free or replace the pen with another flawless brand new one free without any questions asked.

Also, the forum member above that goes by the name "Inkysloth" is going to investigate in order to verify for us whether or not the Lamy 2000 has a lifetime warranty from Lamy of Heidelberg, Germany and whether or not Lamy of Heidelberg, Germany will honor the lifetime warranty and repair or replace this particular fountain pen free of charge if the pen ever breaks or if it ever doesn't work properly for its owner.

I had a message back from Lamy. They simply said:

All our products have an international guarentee of 2 Years.

We thank you for choosing a LAMY writing instrument. Please be assured that we are fully dedicated to develop and produce writing instruments with a unique Lamy design and the highest Made in Germany quality standard!

Kind regards

I looked in the box for my Lamy 2000 and found the same warranty information.

So it looks like, if they offered a lifetime guarantee in the past, they no longer do. Maybe its discretionary.

Id be interested to see the package insert from a Lamy 2000 from 5-10 years ago, to see what the warranty said then.

As for using non-Lamy inks, that wasnt mentioned so cant be a problem. I could see them rejecting a pen repair if it had been filled with, india ink, so maybe thats where the Lamy ink only stipulation came from?

+1, I've since learned not to mess with fountain pens. I've ended up just hiding it until today when I found it again and its bothering me again :( . I've found a ebay seller for the clutch ring so that's good.
