The best nibs in a relatively inexpensive pen that I have used is a 250 Bock #6 nib unit (both steel and semi-flex Titanium) fitted in a Kaigelu 316 pen. For the interested viewer, here are relevant FPN links:

Under $20: Pilot Metropolitan (MR) or even the Pilot Varsity can have pretty smooth nib to it.

Around $20: Asa Maya, smooth and wet nib especially if eyedropper filled.

Around $30: 1)Twsbi Eco, holds a ton of ink, solid JOWO nibs.

2) Esterbrook Js/Dollar/Deluxe, user grade need to be re-saced, but workhorses, and nibs generally are in great writing condition, and quite obvious if not. Many NOS nibs to be had as well for $10-15, easily exchangeable.

Around $45-$50; 1)Sheaffer Imperial III Deluxe (From Peyton Street Pens), its triumph nib is incredibly smooth with a medium wetness

2)Esterbrook J/Dollar/Deluxe restored with sac, NOS 2xxx-9xxx nib.

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

As long as the pen writes reliably when you insert the nib having a matched feed will make little, if any, difference.

Please note that when you order a pen from us without a nib, you don't get a feed and JoWo housing with it, you'll need to supply the full 3-part nib unit. Unfortunately, we cannot buy just the feeds and the housings.
