Heya From Malaysia

Hi to all from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia! I've been lurking around for some time but finally decided to register today. I'm a newcomer to fountain pens, although I remember using a Parker fountain pen that my dad got as a gift when I was around 8 or 9 years old. It had one of those sac-type converters. Can't say I liked using it much back then but now I wish I could find that particular pen again. Anyway, I have bought 7 pens now, nothing too fancy but I enjoy using some more than others, especially my Platinum 3776 Century, TWSBI Eco and Kaweco AL Sport (looking to buy a Sailor next). Several bottles of ink of which my fave is Diamine Ancient Copper.

I'm looking forward to learning lots of cool stuff and to making new friends who all speak the weird pen-lingo that I do :) Thanks in advance!

Welcome !

When I was 10 years old, I was fascinated by my father's Parker 51. I was forbidden to use it. I got caught half the time. It is mine, now, and most cherished of possessions. Maybe you can identify your childhood Parker at this site. http://parkerpens.net/apis.html

Hi abuomar. You're in good company here, and sounds like you have some very nice pens already.

Thank you kind sir. I try to use all of them equally, but some days it's kind of hard to choose which pen to bring with me on my person.

Welcome - great start to your collection!

Thank you, but my wallet disagrees!

Will do so, there's so so much to learn.

Welcome, Abuomar! Pen Gallery at the Weld is one of my favorite haunts whenever I'm in KL--pay it a visit if you haven't yet ;)

Thanks for the tip. Yes, I've been to PenGallery, bought most of my pens and inks there. As far as I know, PenGallery is no longer in the Weld. They have moved to new premises in SS2 PJ, a suburb of KL. When was the last you were here in Malaysia?

Thank you very much for the link and for sharing your childhood story! It must be nice to have that pen now, I only wish I could find the pen of my childhood memories. I will look the website up in more detail later. Taking a cursory look at the site, seems like some memory-jogging took place and I somehow remember the pen as being green coloured. I scrolled down and think I found the exact model of my father's pen with correct color but then I scroll down some more and there's at least 2 or 3 others that look quite just like it. So today I learned that most of the Parker pens, at least older ones, look quite similar.

the last time i was there was a couple of years ago--i flew over from manila just to pick up an MB ernest hemingway that someone from KL was selling for an unbelievably low price; i figured it was worth the cost of the airfare and hotel to pick it up personally! ;)

Really? Wow! That guy must've priced his MB Ernest Hemingway really low for you to be able to add on airfare and lodgings on top of the cost and still be attractive. Did you meet the owner, Mr. Lai? Planning to come back here again anytime soon? The PenGallery shop in SS2 is quite a nice place to hang out, albeit maybe less room than the one in the Weld.
