Saw this red pen at the boutique today. Was supposed to be released late September but they decided to release it tomorrow. They wouldn't allow me to take photos though. Anyone on here a fan of it?

~ A fountain pen?

What color?

Is the nib distinctive?

It's like the Bonheur series made/designed for women

Ugh. THIS woman thinks it's plug ugly and virtually unusable in shape. Where do they hire these woman haters and how can we make it stop?

Yeah, that's a strong negative reaction from me. Why don't I tell you how I really feel?

~ Pravda and Ghost Plane:

Will Chancellor Merkel adopt it as her ‘pen of choice’ for formal ceremonies?

We got this pen yesterday. Pretty bright red and interestingly enough the Montblanc Year of the Dog Ink seems to be matching it !

We have some more pictures.

~ The Lunar New Year ‘Year of the Dog’ will arrive on 16 February, 2018.

Montblanc has pre-released a special ink for it more than five months in advance?

Sure enough, it's listed on both the Montblanc China and Montblanc USA Web sites.

No sign of Ms. Monroe's pen, yet.

The ergonomics of the pen itself doesn't appeal to me. Big step down at the section, and thins out along the barrel as you go up, and awkward looking posting of the cap. I prefer a pen with a more cigar or cylindrical shape.

But as a pen meant to honor Marilyn Monroe, I don't know, what is a proper Marilyn Monroe pen supposed to look like? Certainly not a cigar shaped pen!!! I can't say they did a bad job here though. The color and finish is really nice. It reminds me of the Grace Kelly pen.

Woman haters?

Based on what gets shipped out labeled "feminine" or "for women". Or even claiming to commemorate women.

Let's just say I don't feel much pleasure in their choices for my gender.

Yeah, I don't like it either...but woman haters is really harsh :P

So are the hand cramps caused by designs put out by non pen users and passed off as "feminine" whereupon some well meaning man buys it and presents it to the long suffering female. (Bias alert - 149s are my idea of the perfect woman's pen because they're so comfortable to hold.)

So yeah, it's a bit harsh. But after a decade of reading posts by insecure men asking "is this pen/ink color/notebook/pen case too feminine" as if it would emasculate them to be caught using some woman's possessions, I've gotten a little soured by official "female" designations on anything.

I'm kinda with you, Ghost Plane. While I don't want as big and heavy a pen as a 149, I *certainly* don't want some dainty looking little pen that looks as it it will break if anyone with larger hands than mine so much as picks it up.

I'm not a fan of most of the MB LE pens. People went "ooh, aah" over the Grace Kelly pen, which I find to be overly florid (even a tad, well, tacky looking -- sort of a disservice to the intended honoree, wouldn't you say?) And while I *kinda* like the color of the Monroe pen, I'm not wild about that step-down to the section -- *or* the apparently lack of postability....

Truthfully, I'm not a big fan of "girly" pens to begin with. Pens *I* like using? Parker 51s, Pelikan M200/M400s (LOVE the M405 Stresemann I got last spring -- it's classy looking, not "mannish", and just who says grey pinstripe is only for guys, anyway?), and some of my Sheaffer Snorkels. At the moment, Pilot is making me nuts -- Vanishing Points are a little too heavy for me, but the colors of Decimos being sold in the US run the gamut of "meh" to "girly" to "even more girly" to "who in their right mind likes this color -- it's HIDEOUS" (I'll leave it to everyone's imagination to decide the order of colors... ;)).

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

That's certainly striking. I can't decide if I love it or hate it, honestly. They really captured the "retro/space age" vibe.

Interesting to notice that, for me, the nib for the diva's collection, is probably made from the Noblesse nib. At list, for me the nibs are identical in the form and size.

~ inkstainedtruth and Ghost Plane:

Thank you both for supplying women's perspective.

What first struck me was the clip — not winning any design prizes for robust durability.

I showed the images posted here to a small group of students who are budding authors.

One young lady said: “It's a Barbie pen!”.

Her mocking disdain was impossible to miss.
