I can't bring myself to touch the plastic in the fear that its going to crumble

Beautiful! I also love the graphics on the outer box.

FlighterGuy: What can I say? Such a magnificent collection of rarities.

Congratulations to you both. And thanks for sharing.

I know it's a risk to share this, as some will laugh or be mortified likely, someone would like it perhaps? I kind of do... this Vac came to me with a sorry barrel, and not a great cap, ~10$ though, and since I enjoy lots of various art media, I thought an attempt to hand paint a 51 would be fun, so using an old 20's pattern from hand painted pen engraved into the plastic to accept this pattern and applied paint and a protective layer to avoid this rubbing away. I apologize if some find this offensive to do to an old pen, but I can still use the pen for parts ect if I want to, but a gift to my daughter who also enjoys art is the plan...

It's your pen, you can do what you want with/to it.
Not everyone or anyone has to like it.

But again, it's your pen and as long as you like it, it is irrelevant what others may think.

I think the paint job is kinda fun (I'm the one who was going to paint the Urban from Hell with nail polish when the warranty ran out, after all...).

Nobody ever seems to complain much about look of the Ariel Kulloch "fantasy" 51s -- in fact, they go for *much* higher prices than regular old 51s do....

Personally I'm not wild about the Kullochs, because they sort of belie what I like most about 51s -- they're understated and sort of unassuming. They weren't designed to be flashy, just be exceptional writing instruments. Which they are....

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Thank you for the kind replies, the John Holland hand painted bhr pens were the color inspiration but Parker had a few as well I believe, I don't think I'll be using it but it has a decent nib, 48 date code and looks interesting probably I won't paint any others ha.

Ruth you are certainly right on, Parker had a hit on their hands with this pen for sure. The fact that they hardly ever dry out and look great still sells me.

After reviewing the thread I see a lot of very nice pens, but a distinct lack of demonstrators...

Hi, Folks!

This is a Parker 51 Special in Burgundy c. 1950-1959. It's 5 3/8 inches long capped. The highly polished stainless steel cap is stamped PARKER on the front and MADE IN U.S.A. on the back. The pen should have an imprint and date stamp near the clutch ring on the barrel. Parker stopped dating pens at some point in the 1950s, so it's possible this is a late 1950s model. Differences from the regular Aerometric 51 include a black cap jewel, a different design filling unit, and an octanium nib, named for its eight metal composition. The pen sold for $10 and came in Black, Burgundy, Navy Grey, Teal Blue and Forest Green.

Beautiful pens, I have a 3. I bought the first, a user grade burgundy aerometric w/gold cap just to see what all the fuss was about. I admit, perhaps grudgingly that I was impressed, it was a great writer and the form sort of grew on me (at that time I was all about Vacumatics). I bought a second (teal aero) w/lustraloy cap just to test the the claim by the rabid fans that these were fantastic pens, each and every one. It too was a better than average pen and actually a looker. Not pristine but no major flaws, even the lustraloy was unmarred.

The third was the best, a black vac, w/lustraloy cap and gold blue diamond clip, this one is almost pristine. I got it from Greg Minuskin. When I received it I noted it had an unusual mark:

Parker "51"

Made in USA .T.6

Which as I recall meant that it had something to do with Toronto. Anyone know the whole story? Anyway, at that point I quit buying them, convinced that they are every bit as good as the fans claimed. I would love a forest green model but they are apparently valuable. I have satisfied my desire (somewhat) with a forest green P45, the Parker model which I think is the bargain of the century (well that century anyway).

I asked this question last year about my pen with T7, and got this answer:

"Many now know what the T stands for. It has nothing to do with Toronto or Canada That story was unresearched speculation by Saul--which seemed to make sense at the time. Not sure where Saul heard it but he published it.

More like the second assembly line Parker opened in the Townsend Tractor building just a stretch from Janesville. Was an article on this in the Pennant a while back."

For love of it. And yet not waste time either.

Gold filled cap and barrel, presumably Kosca in Italy. Nice feel, heft, and balance.

Hi, everyone,

These are my two Parker 51 Aerometric pens, I have partial colour blindness and I honestly struggle with identifying the correct colours here, I believe the first one is Teal Blue, while the second one is Navy Grey (please correct me if I'm wrong). They are 138mm capped. The gold cap is stamped PARKER on the front and 1/10 12ct R. Gold. The stainless steel cap is stamped PARKER on the front, and 'Made in England' on the back. The cap jewels are both pearlescent.

My favourite style of 51, very simple, very neat, without the weight of unneccesary decoration, perfect.
