Some drool worthy photo's above - that mustard 51 with Empire cap is my grail pen. Unbelievable combination!

A few more contributions to the photo thread including a black set with 'window pane' caps, a pair of buckskin beige's including one with a correct transition clip, and a minty flighter. Enjoy :)

Glenn,

Where did you get the two Vac bodied ones? That blue Vac barrel is probably the prettiest Parker I have ever seen. If only they made them in full scale production. The silver is gorgeous as well. They blow my Vac Imp set out of the water in beauty.

All these pens were made by Ralph Prather (which is why I waited until he had posted his photo to respond with mine/his).

The materials are (L to R) [and Ralph will correct me if I mis-type]:

Green Vac celluloid, Blue Vac celluloid, Centennial Blue acrylic, M3 Blue/Silver swirl aluminum, Green Marble acrylic (that I supplied), Duofold "Big Red" orange acrylic, Brown Vespel, Red anodized aluminum, Garnet Fire Classic FP's marble acrylic, Cream/Black/Red marble acrylic (that I supplied), Yellow with Black lines acrylic, and Titanium.

51's are great pens, obviously I'm not the only one that thinks that. Nice grouping Mitto, looks like you have quite a few!! I don't collect them per se, but I have a few. I like to take apart and clean up the vac 51's they are fun. I recently found the dove gray at an antique store for cheap, so couldn't pass up on that...both have preserved imprints, and I really like them. Parker has made some great quality pens, from each decade or so a new hit, 20's-Duofold (one of my favorites too) 30's Vacumatic,40's the 51. Impressive hits on the market each, without sparing any measure of quality. I'd like to try my hand at making one of those blue vac plastic fantasy pens? The blue 51 here with the dove gray came to me about as clean as any pen I have, no ink in the collector, and a perfect broad nib. One of my favorites, even though I don't use it that much compared to my other pens.

You wouldn't mind sending me his contact info would you? I'd be interested in getting one of those for myself.

EDIT: Just kidding. I saw his post right before yours. Thanks for the info. Gorgeous pens you have.

Jim, The 51 Mark III was introduced in 1969 of 70. It was listed in the Parker catalog until 1976 when the GF cap version was shown as discontinued. The Lustraloy cap version was discontinued some time after that.

OK, for the record, I collect Flighters, which means that I have all three sets of the 51 pens and pencils and a Vacumatic and Aeromatic demonstrator. Having said that, I do have a very few 51s that are not Flighters. There are just some things that one would be stupid to not pick up!!

That empire set is what I would consider a grail for me, and I don't ever use that phrase. Congrats on such a fantastic 51 collection!

Thanks, but there is always someone that invariably asks me how does it write, like I'm even thinking about opening the cellophane to find out!! And yes, I've been asked are they mint, duh!!
