Parker 51 Photo Thread

Parker made a Lucite Orange 51 Single Jewel Vacumatic, not an Aerometric. There is also a Raspberry/Cranberry 51 Vacumatic.
I believe Kullock pens are acrylic.

Nut o’Vac-

You are confusing people.  For clarity, there are maybe a dozen known Cranberry 51s and 3 or 4 of the bright orange ones and they all have annoying engraving on the barrel.

I’ve seen photos of the the Parker-made P51 Vac in Raspberry/Cranberry, and one recently was on sale on eBay with an asking price of around $4,750.  I don’t know whether it sold.  In the Parker 51 book, that particular color was mentioned with a story.  Parker decided not to sell that color, but as FarmBoy says, some were made as prototypes, which are highly valuable.  I don’t doubt that there are some Parker-made bright orange P51 Vacs out there, also as prototypes.  Still, if they are Parker-made, they are highly desirable.

As for the material Ariel Kullock used/uses to make his customized P51s, whether Vac or Aero, it varies.  He did obtain Lucite in various colors, including bright colors, and did use that to make some of his P51s.  He also used acrylics other than Lucite for other P51s he made.  I recently purchased a Kullock-made P51 Aero made from authentic Parker Duofold acrylic.

VacNut, if you have photos of the Orange prototype P51 Vac, please share that with us, as I’d love to see how it compares with my Kullock-made oranges.

If anyone has any of the Brad Torelli Parker 51s then I would be very pleased to see them, I have only used one, briefly, the craftmanship was off the scale.

Here is my Ralph Prather “DuoVac” “51” replica.  In the Duofold theme it has two black jewels.

Beautiful pen, and it’s a P51 (mostly) Vac.  Thanks.

I don’t think I have any Torelli 51s, but I found these two photos from a “Brad Torelli Parker 51” search:

Here are my known Torelli “51” Replicas.
(I have a 4th that I lost the provenance on that I suspect is also a Torelli pen.)

Thank you, his work is very special to my eyes. I think I have seen the bar design from an English seller (assuming that Torelli's work are all one-offs)

Beautiful.

Hi, Carguy.  Please do share photos of your creations.  Do you gravitate more toward the 51 Vacs or the 51 Aeros?

Expand

My apologies, just got home from the Atlanta Pen Show, and spent WAY TOO MUCH money, but came home with some cool stuff. As for your question, I tend to prefer Aeros as they are easy, but I especially like the DJ model Aeros that Kullock has made over the years. I’ll get some photos up soon.

I have no Torellis or Prather and hope to one day rectify this.

A seller can always list their pens at any price. It is up to the buyer to decide whether or not to pay those prices.

Please keep in mind the Parker Books are a good beginning resource, but more information about Vacumatics and 51’s have come to light since the books were written. Mr Shepard attends the London Pen show regularly. He is always glad to speak with collectors.

The books would be very different if they were written today.

Toronto…tractors…trailers…what does the “T” mean?
“W” on the underside of the Vacumatic feed is for broad nibs?

Lots of great 51’s out there.

The Green-Black Striped 51 is imprinted on the barrel T6.

The celluloid 51 shows how they may have fabricated the 51 Vacumatic when working with solid stock. I suspect they discovered it was very difficult to properly buff the barrel interior.

Clear Demonstrators are always cool.

Why they would make a 51 Red-Band Demonstrator for a pens that didn’t properly fill has been lost to history.
