So pleased to have added a 61 to my small collection. A beautiful pen, and a wonderful filling system.

Here's a 61-related question. I have one that shows pressure-sensitive ink variation, in that it delivers much more ink when firm nib pressure is used, but puts down a lot less using the light pressure typical for fountain pen use. This does provide an interesting pseudo-flex characteristic to the writing, but I'd rather have a well-adjusted pen. I've taken it apart for a thorough cleaning and an attempt to re-assemble it making sure there was a good fit between the nib and feed and that both were properly aligned with the collector, but I saw no change.

Where is the most likely source of the problem? Since the hood becomes a third participant in ink delivery with the tubular nib/feed of a 51 or 61, is the nib to hood fit something to look at? Can/should heat be used to realign the components in the business end of a 61? I know the plastics differ, so what works for a 51 may not be the best idea for a 61.

I would be extremely cautious with that! It is said that the 61 hood is very sensitive and prone to cracking (much more than the 51 hood), so you might end up destroying the pen. I would not attempt it unless you feel that the problem is really serious.

If the nib delivers not enough ink without pressure, the nib slit is too narrow and has to be widen up a little bit. I am using very thin brass sheets for this.
