The long cart is as good as it gets-- that's nearly as much ink as a Pelikan M800 (1.5ml vs the cart's 1.4). That's plenty of ink for most purposes.

It's mainly pens, just now....

Oh, good heavens. He's got a blog now, too.

That's more than the m800. The M800 has a capacity of 1.35ml, according to Pelikan

But what's 0.15ml between friends eh.

I think the Carenes' ink capacity for the cartridge is quite generous and more than adequate for most purposes.

Pelikan's being jolly conservative...

or my means of measuring differs from theirs...

or I'm less accurate in my stuff-in-my-kitchen measuring protocols than a pack of German engineers.

No, wait, scratch that last one. No way that could be the right answer! ;)

The Carene section holds almost an entire long cart, so ink it, put a fresh cartridge in and enjoy.

Waterman's long cartridge holds about as much as 2 standard international ones.

As mentioned above, that's quite a lot, as FPs go.

In some pens you could try to make your own container, but not Waterman, as the barrel has some narrow points inside, no doubt to keep the cartridge or converter from wagging it's tail.

Also not a good idea to use it as an eyedropper, as the end of the barrel is not watertight, and the inside of the barrel is brass which would likely interact with inks.

So, the long cart will have to do.

Hi,

Hmm

I have no idea why one would not carry a spare / back-up cartridge, but to extend the endurance of a Carene, one could adapt the technique I use for a Parker 61 capillary filler: use a converter, then when the converter runs dry - not the pen - refill the converter with plain water.

The Carene collector+feed assembly is massive, holding at least 1ml of ink when flooded, so when blended/diluted in the pen you'll get about another converter's worth of writing. (Much fussing about.)

Best done with a high dye-load aniline ink, such as Private Reserve DC SS Blue. There will be gentle change from dark to light Value, but that'll do in a pinch.

Converting a Carene to an eye dropper is NOT on my bottomless ToDoList.

That. Flood the section with your converter. Pull the converter out, put in a freshly filled long cartridge. Could be messy. That is the most you can get (and really a lot!) but honestly just carry a spare long cartridge. That is a crazy amount of ink.

Then of course you could carry two or three fully loaded pens,

That's not excess. That's the perfect daily quantity of Carenes. OB, B, Stub. Ready for all occasions.

OK.

But they'd all be jostling around, "Pick me." "Me first" "I'll help with your daft punctuation" And the danse jusqu'à l'aube Carene, "I want to have the last word."

Ah me...

Wheee!

Unscrewing the section, pulling out the old cart, popping in the new and rescrewing it will probably take under 10 seconds.....

Don't use Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious too many times.

But then again you could include a nomenclature say S's = Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

Thinking further the nomenclature could contain all the words you want to use...take spare cartridges to compile it mind.

Hi,

Just to add a bit...

Should you go the cartridge route for refill, ensure that you use genuine Waterman cartridges.

(Apparently some International cartridges don't play nice with Waterman pens, and an exam is no time to run aground.)
