Pelikan 3-Pens Case: Utter Rubbish

Hi All!

This is a very in-depth review of the Pelikan 3-pens case. You can see a picture here to get an idea of what I'm talking about.

So, to the review:

- Usability: 0/10 - it's made for three pens, but you can barely fit two small ones, or one big one and one small. The separator doesn't properly separate them, either; expect scratches on your pens (if you can even fit them inside!). There's no way you can fit three small pens, let alone medium- or large-sized ones. Utterly useless. I'll return this to the seller. It's a useless piece of expensive (fake?) leather which doesn't serve the purpose it's supposed to.

Avoid.

And here's as much detail as you need to decide whether to buy this thing or not :P

It's great as a pencil case though: if you're ok spending USD 50 to buy a pencil case, go for it :D

best,

Fabio

Ouch,

Are you suggesting the leather is fake, the product is fake, or both?

If the product is real, it suggests that Pelkan has made a significant mistake in their specifications to their supplier so as to have produced a case that doesn't match the dimensions of their pens.

My experience with this is very different. For me it works great, is high quality, and I carry it daily.

Perhaps you got a fake?

The Pelikan 3-pen case is the one I use most often. It can carry 3 M800 pens comfortably. I've never had any pens scratched. I do agree that the dividers are flimsy.

I currently think the Nock case is the only one that competes successfully for my affections. There are other cases than the Pelikan that seem better made and more protective, but they are also bulkier and/or heavier.

My experience is completely different too. I have several of these, the material is real leather, and it fits a M1000, a M800 and a 149 together (it doesn't fit a Delta Dolcevita OS, though)

The dividers may seem flimsy, but are just what is necessary to prevent the pens from touching each other, and they go to the very bottom of the case (a rare instance of a case with dividers going to the bottom, it would appear). I never had a pen scratched in this case, and I have cases that are more expensive and not nearly as good.

Keep in mind that leather stretches, and when they arrive they seem smaller than they actually are. You need to stretch it first (I put three large Chinese pens for a while there and problem solved).

Mine is definitely real. I bought it from what is possibly the most reputable Pelikan seller in the EU. What I was complaining about is the smell of plastic that the leather produces.

As to the size: is it possible that they may have changed the dimensions? There is absolutely no way you can fit three M800s in mine. I can fit 1 M400, 1 Parker Duofold international (the slim one), and the space I have left can at best acommodate a pencil, or a Sailor Chalana :(

Is it possible that the most recent production is much smaller than the older ones?

I use mine daily for three M800s, no problem. I purchased mine a few months ago.

Could you provide the measurements of yours? I'm starting to think that there may be two sizes, and mine might be the smaller one. As I said, there is no way you can fit 3 M800s in mine, unless by squeezing them so much that you may damage the plastic.

Aha! Pelikan does make a smaller case meant for M300's. I have one that I use for Kaweco's and other "pocket pens." Maybe that's what you have. The M300 case is approximately 114 mm tall. The "regular" Pelikan 3-pen case is 135 mm tall. Hope this helps.

P.S. The smaller case smells like leather.

Oh no!! :( Soooo it looks like I have one of those :( Any idea where to get a larger one here in the EU?

I've had one for ages, it works fine in spite for my aversion for leather goods (wasn't a vegetarian when I got it!) and it holds my pens well, although they would be considered mid size, chunkier pens would probably not fit: Waterman Le Man 100, Sailor Pro Gear, Faber Castell Ambition.
