Glue Cap Band Back On?

The band has come off my inexpensive Libelle. It's not worth a big to-do, but if there's an easy fix to reattach the band I'd love to know. What about hot glue specially made for plastic, which I have on hand? Thanks!

Hi - this one looks to be an easy repair .......... it's the bands that fit within a recessed groove that can be difficult to swage or glue etc.

If you mask off the area above where the band sits, and use a small amount of epoxy or araldite, then this should hold your band. Do clean the inside of the band before you attempt the repair - it looks a tad greenish/dirty on the inside. You might, alternatively, simply wind some masking tape around the lower part of the cap and just push fit the band into place.

Of course others may have other suggestions.

Sounds like a good (and ugly) way to break the cap lip.

I would use a good quality clear epoxy. Gently scuff up the edge of the cap under the band with 180 sand paper, and the inside of the cap ring to give the epoxy a better grip. Clean up is with a damp cloth or paper towel dampened with alcohol. Take the time to check the alignment of lettering, and then set the cap aside for 24 hours.

Don't use superglue, or "plastic welder" epoxies. Regular epoxy on a properly cleaned and prepared surface is much better.
