Update on the Krone Celtic. Had a nice chat w/ FPH. It needs to go off to Krone for warranty work. It spit up on the FPH guru as well, altho' apparently not as much as it was for me. But then I'd been scribbling out page after page with it which he probably doesn't do when testing. We both admired the incredible smoothness of the nib and I should have it back to forward by Thursday complete with the intel where to send it. If I send it, it'll be a no charge. If they forward on, they get charged and have to pass along. So I'm perfectly happy to bundle it up and send it off to wherever it is that Krones go when they're sick. Even with postage, the close out deal w/ FPH is hundreds less than so many other places are charging for these. To get a good writer, it's worth it to me.

Meanwhile, the Gothic keeps on keeping on. Even with this snafu, I'm totally hooked on Krones now. Gotta love those FPH sales!

My former CO is like that. After being shot 5 times, he needs a wall at his back in crowds. And we never know when someone will set off pyrotechnics which causes a BUNCH of us to drop and cover. :headsmack: Be nice if they broke seating and event areas into "civilians" and "veterans" :eureka:

Yeah. Got dragged off to a fireworks display a couple of years ago. It was small so the fireworks went off fairly close to the spectators. After the first couple of Whomp! Whomp! air bursts in the night I was flashing on 1969.

Funny how some of those experiences remain permanent. My dad never had flashbacks until the night we had an earthquake in Nevada. Came running into the bedroom yelling to tie down the planes and check the wheel chocks. Apparently in WWII they had earthquakes in the Himalayas where he was flying the hump and here came the reflexes 50-60 years later! At least I was never stationed where the planes could roll downhill in the night

It's amazing how often I need to take the seat with my back to the door to cover for one of my friends who can't handle that particular stressor. That doesn't bother me. It's neighborhood firecrackers and backfires on cars that make me twitch for cover.

Update on the Krone. Back it came from FPH and it is on its way to be repaired. More when I hear from the great repair gurus.

That must be hell. I hate getting something in the mail (especially when I've had to wait a while for it already), and then having to turn right back and send it in again. Drives me batty.

Here's to hoping you can handle that (bleep) better than I can. :)

Interesting that car backfires make you twitch, but not soo surprising about the firecrackers. I grew up with guns, and then spent 20 years in the US Navy, and fired a lot of guns. A couple of years ago, I was sitting in my family room in San Diego, and heard 3 shots fired, sounded like a 22 caliber pistol. I called 911, and reported gun shots, and where I perceived their origin. The operator asked me if I was sure it was gunfire, and about that time, 3 more shots rang out. The operator said "definitely gunshots, I'll send an officer immediately". If you have heard enough gunshots, you will not mistake a car backfire for one, but you have to hear a LOT of gunshots not to mistake a firecracker for one; that or shoot off a lot of firecrackers yourself.

I'm more worried about IEDs with the cars

I am happy today -- my order of cartridges from Daly's came in, and my Lamy Vista is now loaded with purple ink. My Duke has the Black Cherry, and my VP has blue.

I actually think I'm fine for pens at the moment. Eventually I'd like to get a higher-class Lamy, maybe a Studio, but I'm not in any rush...

Please excuse my ignorance (and the off topic question), but what qualifies music as being goth? I was too old to be one by the time I learned about goths, but I have always thought that it was an interesting subculture.

Well, there's a fair amount of goth music I don't like. (What's that rule that 90% of anything is (bleep)?) I'm pretty old school -- I like Bauhaus, The Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie & The Banshees, The Cure's older stuff... A lot of goths (myself included) are into the current EBM and synthpop artists, like Covenant, VNV Nation, and Wolfsheim. There's a huge amount of industrial crossover as well -- Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb are old favorites. And goths my age (thirties) tend to like 80's New Wave bands like Depeche Mode, because that's what we grew up on. And if you go to an "Old Wave" night at a goth club, you're likely to hear some 80's alternative like The Smiths as well as some 90's classics like Nine Inch Nails.

The bands I mentioned are the most well-known, and their stuff is easy to get hold of. There's tons of other good music out there if you're interested...

I had some goth friends when I was in high school and university (some are still friends of mine). I was never a goth, but we shared some favourite bands, like the ones you mentioned and others as Lords of the New Church, Jesus and Mary Chain, Love and Rockets, Joy Divission, Kraftwerk... they may not be "goth bands", but plenty of goths enjoyed that music.

As for pens, have you considered a Kaweco Sport? There's one in black plastic with guilloche you might like.

I've got at least one from Kraftwerk somewhere in my collection. Maybe I'm in the right thread after all!

Caligatia, thrilled with your ink delivery. Funny how having just the right ink with the right pen changes everything. I thought getting Blue Suede was a mistake until I got the Champlain. Now it looks like the color is welling up from the colors of the pen. Either that or I've had too much coffee and need to put the pens down for awhile.

Best I could do as far as big and thick and maybe a couple are goth too.
What's the second pen from the left? I like!

Ooh, nice-looking.

You named some excellent bands, too!

Gorgeous! Sadly, they look way out of my price range, but they're still darned pretty.

The 2nd from the left is a Laban.

I did not pay over $100 for any of these pens.

Whimper. Pen nirvana! What's the one on the far right?

Oh heck, just tell us what they all are?

Alas, I hear the Chinese Broad nibs wouldn't be broad enough for me. And I saw the Maya with the silver overlay, but they don't come bigger than Ms so far as I can tell. Sob!

Only if you promise to stalk me.

The big one is a Namixin, Laban, 3 Acura copies, Laban. On top is a no-name Chinese, the black one on the bottom is a no-name German.

The Acura copies are under a lot of different names, I believe you have one.

Yes, the no name lying horizontally on top came to me for cheap at an overstock store along with the matching rollerball. Container it was in said "Capelli, Made in Thailand".
