I tried cyclohexane (or was it cycloheptane? I'm upstairs, and the bottle is down in the shop) on a Montblanc 146 section once, just to see if it worked. My own pen mind you, and I had no expectations. The section instantly fell apart into a dozen pieces, but the precocious resin certainly softened.

Well, I'll certainly remember that for the next time I want to get a section into 12 pieces quickly...

Just out of curiosity, what exactly causes pen plastic to go "cloudy"? If it's the moisture, logic says that thoroughly drying the pen should return it to near its original state...has anyone had any success at restoring something like this or should I mount it and frame it as "art"?

This question has been on my mind a lot lately.

I have a Vac with some slight clouding on the cap, not sure if from water or UV or what, but I've pondered a lot on whether something might bring back the original luster.

Anyone have experience here?

Why bother talking about chemicals, not available, with probably good reason, to the general populace.

Both are easily available on line at many sites. It just isn't something a hardware store would carry.

 

Both are a simple hydrocarbon and not particularly toxic.
