My new baby! (M nib) Squee!

I can see how this pen would be too slim for some, but I think I'll be ok with it.

I am going to treasure this.

That said, I can already tell that yes, I will want a 146 or 149 as well. Here in the depths of winter the coolness of the metal base on this pen is quite noticeable. So I'll be on the lookout for one with a different nib than this one....perhaps OB or BB...

I see there is an NOS Boheme with an oblique nib for sale. I am sorely tempted but I know very little about this model. The mechanism seems odd and complex. Is it reliable?

It's a cartridge-filler. I believe they are reliable pens.

However, shouldn't you be saving up for your 146R or a 149?

 

By the way, the Heritage 1906 is really cool. I would love to see a writing sample and a close-up of the nib.

I tried...Alas the batteries in my point n shoot just died and we are in the middle of a winter thunderstorm (tis almost dark, at lunchtime!). So, a decent photo of the nib will have to wait. The writing sample is on the entirely average copy paper we use at work, and the ink is....Mystery black? I'm not sure, it was in the pen when it arrived and I have no issues with nice black ink, so I figured I'd use it up before cracking open one of mine

And yes, I should save up some $. I am, however, weighing up the chances of finding a 149/146 in the wild with an oblique nib for that kind of price....

Less so. Bear in mind they have been in a Montblanc boutique and have been written with (tested) by loads of people

Definitely less desirable. They were also not meant for sale. They are a bit like floor models. I am wondering if MB service would replace the barrel bearing those inscriptions.

It's certainly an interesting pen but it doesn't match how I use my pens (mainly note taking so using the mechanism would get old). I've also heard they aren't the easiest to clean but haven't heard that from someone who actually owned the pen.

The whole process does seem a bit unnecessary when compared with the simplicity of a Pilot Vanishing Point. I must remember to look up the videos.

You clean them by flushing thru a long cartridge that's been hollowed out at the rear, use the cartridge as a nozzle for your bulb syringe.

 

Biggest sin is getting the mechanism wet & putting it away damp; the insides are steel and will rust.

 

Mine sees daylight about once every 5yrs a new cartridge, then a bit of use until dry then gets flushed. Is left opened out to dry for about a week before going back in its box.

 

Nice mechanism design but it's a gimmick imho & gets in the way of my usual writing workflow. I don't post & I don't have patience to go twisting the knob to extend nib just to jot the odd note. I haven't handwritten long essays or multi page letters for decades.

There's a 146 tester (black) with a BB on eBay that I was looking at. Probably nothing unusual.

I have a Boheme Big Size and it is lovely to write with, a good size and the 18K nib is just perfect. I have a bulb syringe I use to flush the pen, it is quicker than my piston pens. It is my only cartridge pen, so I use it sometimes when travelling for a short time and travelling light (no ink bottles).

I suspect that Montblanc would replace a barrel bearing an inscription like that if it was damaged. They must get out of boutiques, potentially when they look a bit more worn than is desirable.

One thing that annoys me about my retractable Boheme, is that despite the fact that I'm really careful with all of my pens, and especially so with my Montblanc pens, my clip no longer lines up with the nib on my Boheme Marron. Plus you have to have the cap posted on the pen for writing. I know Montblanc would fix it, but it's the nuisance of having to send it in for service.
