I am not Ruth, but I'll add my "two-cents" worth.

In my experience, Kon-peki is a true cerulean blue with relatively high saturation and relatively low shading.

Edelstein Topaz is a bit less saturated, has more shading, and leans toward a turquoise color.

I've used Kon-peki, and really like it. But not in any of the Pelikans. In my experience a lot of Iroshizuku inks are on the wet side, and probably too wet for most Pelikans. My first bird was a 1990s era M400 Brown Tortoise, and I was thinking that with it's springy and juicy wet nib it would be great for drawing with. But I found that my original plan of putting Yama-guri in it (which is one of those inks I NEVER want to be without ) was too wet for the pen. OTOH, Noodler's Walnut, which is pretty dry, worked very well in it, and so did Edelstein Smoky Quartz (which is a similar color to Yama-guri -- I really like browns that lean slightly sepia).

Kon-peki works really well in my Pilot Decimo, as do several other Iroshizuku inks (I was going to put Yama-budo back in it for this weekend, but packing on Tuesday was a little crazy and I misplaced the bottle  somewhere in the house. I considered Murasaki-shikibu (a new ink for me) but already had a pen inked up with a similar enough purple that I decided to hold off, and tried the first non-Pilot ink in the Decimo instead (Birmingham Smithfield Street Bridge Truss Blue), which is a gorgeous cobalt blue. And we'll see how hard it is to flush a fairly saturated ink out of the Decimo later....

I have not done a comparison between Kon-peki and Topaz (or, for that matter, adding in Diamine Havasu Turquoise -- which is a dead ringer for Topaz, IMO -- and also De Atramentis Sky High, which I also like).

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

Thanks, both of you. I'll probably try to get a sample of Topaz, but if it's not as cerulean as Kon Peki I'll probably start looking again. I just love saturated blues. :)

An all-black M805 with a bi-colour ‘F’ nib. Inked with Edelstein Olivine.

The combination is a haptic delight :)

Tonight I have inked 17 pens.

Let me highlight just one which seems inviting - My Manuscript 1856 in Turquoise with a stub nib, which is almost perfectly matched with Diamine Soft Mint.

M205 (M) inked with Edelstein Olivine (not a surprise...I do like this colour, it has a military vibe...)

M800 (M) inked with Iroshizuku Chin-Ryoku

M1005 not inked...waiting for the EF nib to replace the F nib...then to be inked with Iroshizuku Shin-Kai (or I might try Fuyu-Syogun for the first time)

Primarily a Pelikan 100N (post war) with a stellar 14k CI B-nib (c. 1950). It is housed in a Pelikan desk pen holder so always ready to write. Ink is... Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black.

"The Other Ones":

- Pelikan 400NN (BB),

- Pelikan 400NN Tortoise (M),
- Kaweco V12 (superb CI B-nib),
- Parker 51 Aerometric (very nice B stub),
- Lamy 2000 (from late 1960s/early 70s) with an OF nib from a LAMY 99,
- Pelikan M200 Blue Marbled (F, steel) and finally,
- Woodshed Pen Co. handmade pen with a Jowo 1.1mm italic nib.

Inks in use are Pelikan 4001 BB, Sailor Souboku, Diamine Eau de Nil, Diamine Alexandrite (non-shimmer version) and Diamine Shimmertastic Blue Lightning.

M1000 green/black, EF nib, with De Atramentis JS Bach (dark ebony brown) ink

M1005 Stresemann, EF nib, with Iroshizuku Fuyu-Syogun (grey) ink

Which is the same as it was many months ago. Rinse and repeat, quite literally. A few other pens has been in use as well, but the M1000/M1005 turns out to be a great daily writer.

M205 Red, F, with 4001 Brilliant Black

M205 Taupe, F, with 4001 Brilliant Brown

In some ways, these are two of the finest pens I own, with two of the best-matched inks. I value these pens especially for their reliability in putting down extraordinarily consistent lines with a reliability that is exceeded by no pen I have ever used, with a very agreeable amount of feedback.

Lovely pens. I have an M and a B, but both are fire hoses (which is particularly annoying for this left-hander). I need to do something about the flow one of these days. The nibs are a pleasure to use, but still WAY to juicy for me, even with the lightest of touches.

My M805 blue dunes is permanently inked with Kon-Peki. The nib is M grind to cursive italic. The pen works really well with Kon-Peki.

My M101n red tortoise is inked with Iro Kosumosu, the autum cherry color is beautiful, my favorite pink.

I got a vintage 400 with KM nib also inked with Kosumosu. It is wetter than M101n, giving more depth to the pink color.

My M605 white transparent is inked with Kiri-Sami, the gray color of Iro line.

My M600 white violet is inked with one of Iro blue-purple, I dont remember the Japanese name.

I am a big fan of Iro inks!

I like Iro inks as well, have my fine M200 filled with Tsukushi which is a good match.

I got my M1005 EF nib (as replacement for a F nib) and it is goooood. Needed some time to get use to though...it is wetter and more bouncy than other nibs I am used to and thus leaves more ink on every paper...even for a EF!

Anyway, started with Iroshizuku (my favorite inks) shin-kai, and switched today to aji-sai, a more Spring-upbeat-blue/purple-joyful color. Really nice.
