Parker Ballpoint With Pelikan Refill

Recommended Posts

Does anyone use a Pelikan ballpoint refill in a Parker ballpoint pen? I am anxious to try this combination, but seek feedback in advance as the Pelikan refills are on the pricier side. I am particularly interested in the medium and broad blue refills, and am wondering also if they work well in the Parker push-button mechanism models, such as the Jotter and "45". I wish that Parker still produced a broad ballpoint refill and don't understand why they are no longer made.

Since the Pelikan refill is Parker-style, the Pelikan ballpoint refill will fit your Parker pens without any problems.

I tried the (medium and broad) Pelikan refill and found it to be smoother than Parker refills. However, I found that Schneider Slider (I prefer the 755 XB), Schmidt (900B and 9000 EasyFlow broad), Visconti (broad ballpoint and broad gel ink), and Monteverde (SoftRoll broad and gel ink broad) refills (all Parker-style) provide a far-smoother, more enjoyable writing experience than Pelikan ballpoint refills and Parker (ballpoint and gel ink) refills; Schneider, Schmidt, Visconti, and Monteverde refills are better than Caran D'Ache ballpoint refills too.

Somewhat ironic that I have Parker refill in my Pelikan (and Parkers). Tried Schmidt P900 M's too; not my cup of tea.

Some of the Pelikan ballpoint refills are not Parker G2-format. But it is pretty unlikely that you'll run into Pelikan 237-refills. Certain Pelikan Silvexa's uses those.

Kaweco Supra (titanium B), Al-Sport (steel BB).

Parker: Sonnet (dimonite); Frontier GT; 51 (gray); Vacumatic (amber).

Pelikan: m600 (BB); Rotring ArtPen (1,9mm); Rotring Rive; Cult Pens Mini (the original silver version), Waterman Carene (ultramarine F)

I found a nice Schneider broad refill for my Pelikan Silvexa ballpoint pens. ; )

Eh? Modified something or what have I missed?

Edit: Wait. Is your Silvexa one one the partially plastic ones?

Pelikan 555 Silvexa -- Brushed metal top-half and plastic bottom half (matching the button-top) with metal end-cone; I have the matching 1.18 mm Pelikan 550 Silvexa pencil too.

When I bought the pen, I could not use it for a while since I did not have a working refill; I did not want to use one of those scratchy, cheap cut-off refills. I did a refill search (a bit expensive since I had to buy a variety of refills to try) and I found the Schneider Express 75B, the perfect broad ballpoint refill for this pen; this is a metal refill. What is really nice about this refill is that it fits my Faber Castell KS 09 ballpoint pen too; I have the matching 1.18 mm pencil for this pen as well. ; )

Thank you all for your feedback and suggestions. Elysee, we do have similar tastes, I believe, and I too am fond of the refills you mentioned, especially the Schneider Slider, the Visconti (both gel and ballpoint), and the 900B (mine is the Private Reserve label, but is surely made by Schmidt). I have not tried the 9000 EasyFlow. I also like the broad Montblanc ballpoint refills, which I am able to use in a used Montblanc I happened to luck into and also a counterfeit one I found online. And I like my blue ink to be blue, and I find the new Parker ballpoint refills, as well as the Waterman, to be almost purple and on the finer side of "medium." Thanks again.

The broad Montblanc refills are great. I use them with the snap-on extension piece so that I can use Montblanc ballpoint refills in some of my rollerball pens. I use the Montblanc ballpoint refills in my Dunhill Gemline ballpoint pens (the earlier slanted-top Gemline series, not the one with the twistable D-top) as well.

Have you ever tried the broad Waterman ballpoint pen refills? Sadly, they are discontinued now but you may be able to find some. I found the broad Waterman refills to be much smoother than the medium and the fine ballpoint refills. Before I found the broad Waterman ballpoint refills, I was tempted to get rid of all my Waterman ballpoint pens; that gives you a glimpse of how much I do not like the medium and fine Waterman ballpoint refills.

I like my blue ink to be blue as well. : )

Right. I have the entirely brushed metal version; I think it is "Silvexa no.28". In my knowledge this version still doesn't have a out of the box compatible refill. Some people have hacked, I don't even remember what refills to fit.

Oh, and extra broad Schneider Slider is nice. Although slightly stickier feeling than Parker.

Elysee, I have not had the opportunity to try the broad Waterman ballpoint refills. I discovered, as you note, that they've been discontinued, although I did see some NOS being offered online. In my Waterman rollerballs, I like to use the broad (and sometimes medium) Pilot G-2 refills. I am not familiar with the snap-on extension for Montblanc ballpoint refills you mention. If you don't mind, where are these available and in what rollerball brands do they work?

I have never seen the Silvexa No. 28. I can imagine your frustration at not being able to use it with a properly fit refill.

I must admit that the extra broad (YUM!!! A true writing pleasure!!!) Schneider Slider is my favorite Parker-style ballpoint refill. It has nice ink-flow and smoothness while writing. The ink-flow for the Schmidt 9000B EasyFlow is nice as well but it does not write well on some coated cards; that is problematic as I like to send letter-cards to friends and family.

Perhaps broad refills can not function properly with the lower viscosity Quinkflow ink.

Parker is not the only company to discontinue broad refills, Sheaffer discontinued broad refills several years ago (those were great for Sheaffer ballpoint pens and they were made in blue, black, red, and green inks) and, more recently, Waterman discontinued broad refills (blue and black). Since I never liked the Parker refills (fine/medium/broad as the ink is sticky/dry with poor ink-flow and a general lack of smoothness), I do not miss the Parker broad refill. However, if Schneider, Schmid, Monteverde, or Visconti were to discontinue their broad/extra-broad refills, I would not be happy.

The snap-on extensions for Montblanc ballpoint refills are listed on eBay from time to time. I got mine from a brick-and-mortar pen store several years ago. If you have a pen store in your area, you might inquire there first; I have inquired at other pen stores since then and found that most folks know nothing about the snap-on extensions for Montblanc ballpoint refills. I inquired in two Montblanc boutiques but no one in either one knew anything about them; I had to show the snap-on extension to the Montblanc sales people and they oohed and aahed but had no knowledge of their existence. I have used Montblanc ballpoint refills with the snap-on extensions in my Elysee rollerball pens as well as my Montblanc pens and some Caran D'Ache rollerball pens. I have not tried to use them in my Waterman rollerball pens as I use bold (broad) Pilot G2 gel ink refills in these pens; I use the bold G2s in other rollerball pens as well.

Do a search for "montblanc extension" on eBay: you will find two (two different US sellers) listings for Montlbanc refills with the snap-on-extensions. One seller has one set available with medium refills while the other seller lists having ten sets available with fine refills.
