I heard that the BBH and BBK inks degrade quite fast, that is, thr inks have a very short shelf life, a year or two at most. Is it true?

To me it sounds quite improbable, I doubt many sellers would carry them if they had to toss their stock every year or so. May I ask where did you come across this "rumor"?

I don't know the shelf life, but mine (BBK) is much older than just a year or two. I used it for about 5 years in a Lamy Al-star, only running water over the nib when it was refilled. It went years without a real flush and clean without clogging. If I didn't use it for a while (weeks) it might dry in the nib, but a quick dash under the faucet fixed that.

It is not completely water proof in that water will wash off some color, but plenty stays behind to keep it legible.

The one thing I don't like about it is how much it feathers and bleeds. When my checks started coming in cheap paper I switched this pen to Noodlers black, which is much better behaved in that regard.

My bottle of BBK is old enough that I don't have a clue when I bought it, maybe 2015?? In any case, it is as good as new and one of my favorite subdued blues.
