Strange New Aurora Duo-Cart Fountain Pen

Recommended Posts

This is one of my friend's pen. It's a brand-new one.

It skips a lot. I think the nib is too far from the feed.

She called the agent, and the agent said every one of this pen looks like this.

Is it really so?

Whether they are all like that, I do not know.

Should they be? My only reference is eight Aurora 88s from the period. None of them has such a gap. None skip.

I would return the pen as (in local terminology) not of merchantable quality, not meeting reasonable expectations for performance.

Exactly my idea of a proper pen.

However, the Aurora distributor in my country is refusing to replace it, saying every single pen they got from Aurora is just like that, thus not a problem.

My modern duo-cart has a similar gap between nib and feed. Despite my initial concerns it turned out to be a pleasantly smooth, wet writer. No idea if this is typical or whether I was just lucky. Have you tried different inks?

Although I do not know your country and your local laws, I suggest that the assertion "they are all like this" represents future coprolites, bovine-sourced.

I refer you to this experience of the same pen posted around the same time in another thread.

The nib is tuned exceptionally well and has terrific flow.

I guess you are lucky. :) I guess small difference of assembly makes big difference of writing.

The owner of the pen will bring it to a nib meister nearby. Thank you for your sharing! :)

Now the distributor recognizes the situation is not so good.

They offered to fix the nib. Well, if it were my pen, I'd rather return it..

That's me posting and while my gap looks similar to catbert's picture above, it does indeed write exceptionally well.

clear1, I hope that your friend gets this sorted out quickly.

Thank you for your kind words. :)

Just got curious. Do you see the ink between the nib and feed when using? Or does that gap stay clean of ink?

If you look closely at the picture of my (inked) duo-cart above, there is ink in the gap between nib and feed.
