Two Vintage British Pens

Pieemme, this has improved my own knowledge of how to deal with Onotos which do not behave well at first attempts. I allow that valve tuning may still be needed for resting and usage states. It seems though that the basic problem of air drying needs to be dealt with first in each case when hard starting is a problem.

Flow problems (if existing) may be easier to manage once drying is under control; less of the famine or flood syndrome.

Strangely enough, the 3050 I just refitted with a new plunger doesn't seem to be affected by themsame problem. The nub is a wee bit too fine to my taste butmit doesn't run dry n

OF all vintage pens, perhaps the Onoto plunger fillers have grown most eccentric over the years. I have a small one which works just as it should, a Magna feckled by Eric W which is generally solid but dries out a little, and a 6000 series which just loves Pelikan BB but gets sulky on anything else. The British sportscar analogy works for me! I assume this situation is a combination of treatment over the years, how well they have been repaired, and the types of inks that have been used. But you know what? They are a lot more fun than a Lamy 2000 or even, dare I say, a Parker 51 . . . .
