149 O3B Coming My Way

When I sent my Tolstoy in earlier this year to swap it's Medium for an OBB it was returned to me damaged. The nib itself was fine, however the silver ring by the section literally fell off on the pen, and I had to return it for repair.

LetterRevivalist, thank you for the contact information. I am hoping to have time today to draft a letter and will send it out tomorrow. I am half tempted to include my pen with the letter so that he can see this poor workmanship firsthand. My only fear is that it would not make it to him and I never see the pen again.

You could send him a picture.

I tried to get an O3B on the new UNICEF 146 but they told me it was a bespoke nib?!?

Is the O3B only available for the nib swap on the regular 146/149 line?

Seriously bummed now.

Current Wishlist:

Visconti, Visconti, and...more Visconti! (And some ST Duponts too). (Ok fine, getting on the Omas and Montblanc trains now too. Toot toot.) (And maybe on the Montegrappa one too, but only for the Miyas.)

I believe the O3B is only available as a normal nib exchange in the 149 line. The 146 nibs only go up to OBB so that may be why Montblanc quoted the O3B as a bespoke nib?

Kong is correct.

Aha, thanks all. Makes sense now.

  • 1 month later...

Hello thread followers. An update... I received a call yesterday my pen was back from service. I carved out time to hobble over to the boutique today (bum ankle) and see if I got another cat nib (little whisker lines on the shoulders) or a good one. Well the nib was not perfect, but "good enough for government work" as I like to say when it's close enough and I don't have the patience to keep trying. The nib had some swirl marks where they might have tried to buff out some scratches. Over time I find the nibs develop these lines with use anyway so I accepted the pen as is rather than lose it for at least another month. An 8 month wait and I did not even get a custom pen or anything cool at the end of it. :)

I'll ink it up tomorrow with some lucky orange and see what it can do.

Never having written with Lucky Orange, I'll be interested in how it writes for you.

While it's welcome news that your pen has finally returned, I'm dismayed at the less-than-optimal service.

In any case, I hope that you'll like the result on paper.

I still like Iroshizuku Yu Yake better, but this is more orangy orange.

Lovely pen Zaddick, and the ink looks great through the ink window, like it's vintage!

I'm not ready for the O3B plunge just yet, but I can see it happening...

A more visually compelling case for OBBB nibs has not been made.

Your handwritten images set the bar very high for OBBB stroke illustrations.

Superb on all counts.

If an OBBB ever finds its way into your home, you'll share in the fun.

As zaddick's photos show, OBBBs are practical writers.

Someday...
