149 O3B Coming My Way

Recommended Posts

My 149 began sucking ink out of the rear near the piston knob and required repair. I sent it in and asked for a quote on swabbing out the F nib to an O3B while they have it. I just got off the phone with MB and the repairs will be complimentary if I proceed with the nib exchange, which I agreed to. Excited to be joining the uber broad club!

Exciting! How long is the wait going to be?

Maybe they have made a stock of them in anticipation of certain fpn forum users' influence...

Congrats. I am waiting for the service center to do my swap to an O3B, but it has already been 2 months and they estimate another one to go. I have other repairs than the nib swap so the holdup may be the parts, not the nib. I hope yours does not also get stuck in quicksand.

They must be wondering what's going on over here. :D

How much was the nib swap?

I happened to just find the invoice for my service on my desk. They charged me for a "Service Flate Rate 3" which for the 149 was $364 + tax. I am having it sent to the local boutique otherwise I would have had to pay shipping.

Interestingly the invoice says the nib unit is complimentary, which I find ridiculous as the only reason it is level 3 is to replace the nib.

Mine says the same thing, I did not think it made any sense either. I'll also be getting a new body, new ring at the end, and new forepart (I believe that is the section?) along with with the nib. I'm guessing not much besides my cap will be original. I am going to ask them to send the original nib back to me as well.

Be aware the website for MBNA states they do not return anything removed. I had a look when I packaged a pen for repair.

To your point, I made sure there was no nib for them to keep. ;)

Note to self; remove the nib before sending for an exchange.

Within the last 2 years I sent an XF Moon Pearl pen in for an OBB exchange, and they sent back the XF nib. I suppose your mileage may vary: I did not get back an M nib swapped to OBBB on a 75th 149 LE. My Hemingway has a constant slow leak at the base of the section, just enough to make my fingers dirty, don't know if I want to change it or enjoy the utility of a small nib on forms, but inky fingers, inky fingers...

I am a Noob. How does one remove the Nib on the Montblanc? Is it attached by a press fit? If so why the long wait to exchange the nib?
