New Lamy Pen Model: The Lamy Aion

Here, they are about the price of a Studio... might as well stick with the Studio... if you don't mind it's grip section.

For the record the Lamy Studio has more than one type of grip section. Everyone talks about this pen as if the glossy polished metal section is all there is. There is the textured black section on the brushed steel and the textured section on the Palladium version. It is indeed possible to get a Lamy Studio that isn't slippery.

The pen is going to be sold here for around 71 dollars or so. I like the look of it. The clip doesn't look bad to me at all. If the converter came with it, it might not be too bad of a price. I think they are starting it out on the upper limit of what it is worth though. I look forward to hearing reviews.

Hi Ink Syringe,

Thanks for the info, but I know, (I guess I should have phrased that better),... I own several Studios... I was speaking on behalf of the people who complain about it.

Personally, I haven't had any issues with ANY of the Studio sections... just like I've never had any trouble with the "dog ears" on the L2K, but a lot of people say they're a deal breaker, too.

Thank you just the same, though. Be well. :)

...If the converter came with it...

Hi KKay,

According to the Goulet site... it does. :) Knowing me, I'll probably get one of each color... although the silver one throws me... they call silver-olive, but it just looks like a plain matte silver to me.

Be well. :)

Thanks ParkerDuofold. I kind of like the silver one. I wish I could see it in person. Good to know they come with a converter!

I like the silver, too... just trying to see where the olive comes in... maybe its one of those colors that digital photography can't really capture.

Well, I guess we'll find out soon enough. :)

The SF Pen Show is this coming Friday. I will be there on the lookout for the Aion to see it live in person. I'm really curious about this silver-olive thing too.

I'd have to see (and hold) one of these in person, but they don't look bad. OTOH, the nibs only seem to be EF, F and M (at least from what the Goblet Pens site is showing), so that may be a deal breaker for some people.

Thanks ES... :) ... we're all counting on you to lead us through that strange, murky place known as LamyLand.

Be well and enjoy the show. :D

The Goulet website claims that only the M nib is newly designed - for all other sizes the pen is compatible with Safari nibs.

That's a buzzkill for me. Honestly, the more I learn about the pen the less I'm interested in it. Anyway, no rush to get it now ...

Well, what I meant was that some people prefer broad nibs and stubs. My Safari has an F nib on it and I love it. But for a pen that costs roughly twice as much as a Safari, it's a bit disappointing that the choice of nibs is so limited -- especially given the range of nibs for Safaris.

That would indeed be disappointing. Where does it say this? Goulet's listing for an EF Aion suggests a new EF nib design, though the accompanying photo shows a medium nib:

"A new innovative stainless steel extra-fine nib with unconventional contours is exclusive to this fountain pen series."

Lamy's Aion page shows a range of nib grades from EF to B. (Admittedly, the diagrams don't look like the new shape.)

It does come in broad, but since we historically don't sell many Lamy broads, we aren't carrying this out of the gate.

All the nibs are redesigned, not just medium. Sorry if any product descriptions were confusing. They are interchangeable with the normal Z50 steel nib, and write the same, just have some aesthetic differences (much like how the LX nib is slightly different in appearance).

Thanks for the clarification.

Thank you for clarifying. I guess I was looking at the M Aion. Thank you also for letting us know that it writes the same as the Safari nibs.

I look forward to seeing some writing samples! I'll probably order an F.

Thanks for sharing! There was an ad for a redesigned Citroen DS a long time ago with the tag line, "the tamed avant-garde". Just so.

Think that was for the DS/CX inspired C6 (which I have). Err does this mean my growing Lamy pen collection (I will buy an Aion), owning a Citroen C6, and also possessing a black turtleneck jumper are all linked ....
