Jowo And Bock Fine Nibs

Recommended Posts

So the pen that I am considering buying comes with a #6 Bock nib, and so far I haven't had the best experience with their #5 nibs as the "extra-fine" was thicker than my #6 Jowo fine. I'm not sure if this is just due to the different nib sizes as I haven't been into fountain pens that long. Is this just something that occurs with smaller nib sizes or does Bock actually make their nibs with a thicker line?

In my experience there's negligible difference between Bock's XF and F nibs. I like how they write, but they're not that fine. My titanium xf produces a slightly finer line than my steel xfs but that might be sample variation.

If you started with skinner than marked Japanese nibs, then stay with Japanese, in your Mark 2 Eyeball was calibrated to that. Western will always to fat to you.

My Mark 1 was calibrated to US/Euro so I'll always find Japanese too skinny.............and for me out side of editing, find vintage Euro EF to be too narrow. Of course that is 1/2 a size narrower than most modern Euro nibs.

Don't know how modern is compared to vintage, in I only have 4-5 post '97 pens.

The Pelikan 200 is still vintage-semi-vintage narrow in steel.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

What is the pen you're looking at? You might be able to swap the nib between Bock and Jowo. I did that with my Namisu Nova, bought and custom grind jowo nib from fpnibs and put it on the Bock feed and collar. Works perfectly fine :)

Actually I am looking at getting a Namisu Nova  , it's nice to know that I can switch nibs between collars though!

Don't overlook the Orion - I own both, but having bought one of each now have three Orions :)

The Bock assembly unscrews really easily and Beaufort Inks sell spare assembled nibs fr a reasonable price.
