Hero Fountain Pen Leakage

Hello guys,

I am here to share a problem that has been troubling me from past week. The thing is that small amount of ink is seeping out from the area where the metal ring is there. If I don't use my hero 616 and the 221 for a day, then a small amount of ink leaks. I get ink stains on my fingers when I write with them.The leaking is more in case of the 616, but I want to fix the problem for both of them. Tell me what to do as soon as possible. The hood (plastic part covering the nib and the feed) in Hero 616 is screwed on the section - check if it isn't too loose, which from what I know is quite common for those pens and causes them to leak. In mine I just accidentaly unscrewed the hood when wanted to unscrew the barrel. Apparently the barrel was more tightly screwed than the hood.

 

If that seems to be the problem, unscrew the hood, exposing the nib and the feed, put some shellac on threads, screw the hood on again and let the shellac dry. That's what I did and it helped.

 

Be careful to make sure that the nib is properly alligned with the hood (another common problem with 616's) as after shellac dries it will be much harder to unscrew the hood to adjust it.

if you can be more specific about how , where it leaks then might be we can figure something out, otherwise its just generic guessing ... can't do much without any clue

How do you keep them?

Upright with the cap down or up?

Horizontal?

 

Best will be, make a photo showing where it leaks.

I've had people experiencing leaks on their Hero 616 pens when left nib down, but not from the friction ring. If you leave your pen nib down that may be something easily remedied because fountain pens are not meant ot be left nib down in your pocket or carrying case. Even pens that are built much better than the 616 will exhibit leaks (Pilot, Kaweco, TWSBI, Lamy...) if left nib down and shookt.

I have experienced the same thing from Hero 616s. Apparently it's one of the artifacts of that fountain pen's QC issues.

 

It is also possible that you have a counterfeit Hero 616. There are a number of threads about that around here.

 

I have tried in the past to unscrew the hood from the rest of the Hero 616, the hood and section are integral, but I have never been able to do it. If you can get yours to unscrew then you should try the shellac trick that WJM has outlined. If you can't unscrew that hood then, well, you're in the same boat as I am, and I'll be looking to see if there are any other suggestions made to deal with the problem. Good luck .
