Old Calligrapher With Old Fountain Pen

I am glad to find this forum. I have been a calligrapher using stick pens and nibs for many years. I recently inherited a Parker Duofold Lucky Curve Junior. It came with several boxes of art supplies that I inherited from our deceased 92 year old aunt who was a calligrapher. I didn't even know what it was when I came across it, except that it was a fountain pen.

 

The pen looks exactly like the one in this picture except that it is dirty, dull and missing the sac and pressure bar.

 

I started researching how to restore it and of course I found far more on the internet than this old "stick pen and nib calligrapher" can figure out.

 

I want to keep this pen and use it because the woman who owned it was very dear to me. I want to restore it myself. And I want to be careful.

 

So I came to this forum. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome home. Pull up a stump and set a spell. That may not be the best pen to learn on. I suggest contacting Danny Fudge and ask him to restore it for you.

That may not be the best pen to learn on. I suggest contacting Danny Fudge and ask him to restore it for you.

 

+1 for this. I'm sure you would rather have it restored perfectly and carefully to it's former glory than risk breaking it yourself.

Even if you have restored other fountain pens, in your experience, the 80-year-old Duofold can be quite brittle. Consider restoration by someone experienced. Your Junior model is small, and easy to carry in the pocket. However, there is an extension taper, that attaches in place of the blind cap. It makes the pen 7 inches long. Fountain pen ONLY, in fountain pens.

 

I envy your having an heirloom pen, from an important person, to cherish and use.

A Duofold is NOT a pen to learn how to restore a pen.

Part of the tuition of learning how to repair a pen is damaging or destroying the pen you are working on

If you value the pen, send it to a pen tech to restore for you.

 

Then get CHEAP pens to practice on.
