Noodler's Чайковский (Tchaikovsky)

I've been lurking here for a long time but joined today as I saw Noodler's Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov did not have ink reviews but are both in my possession. I love looking at ink reviews, even the rubbish ones, so I was inspired to make my own modest contribution.

 

This ink is probably not a good choice for lefties, as it takes a really long time to dry (still smearing at 20 seconds), it's also not a good choice for non-FP papers as it feathers like a beast. BUT - it is oh, so, so very pretty. It shades so incredibly richly - like Apache Sunset where it's one colour at the top of a stroke, a completely different one at the base - and my pen seems to really like it. Also, it is freakishly water resistant. Even after 15 seconds and rubbing, the q-tip sample stayed squarely intact.

 

Full page is a scan, close-ups are iPhone photos in natural light on Rhodia dotpad and Field Notes. You guys, the shading.

Thank you very much for adding this review and welcome to FPN. I've looked at this ink and I like the color but I thought it would be too fussy. What do you think?

Thank you for your welcome! I'm delighted to be here.

 

Now that I've run through my entire CON-40 of it, I should probably go back and add to the review. I find it to be a very sticky ink. I'm not sure that's the right descriptor but it makes for VERY hard starts in my Elite. I have to scribble to get it flowing.

 

Once it gets going, it's like it was made to be in that particular pen but it was a trick to get it there. I'm going to try it in some other pens. I have a Cross Townsend which practically hemorrhages ink so maybe it will be better there.

 

You're exactly right - the colour is fantastic, unlike anything else I've seen, but it is super fussy. I think it's going to be a great ink for special letters and other types of correspondence but definitely not for a note taking or everyday carry pen.

The Noodlers Russian Series (I have a few of them) are all bulletproof and with that comes the extra fussiness. They are "thick" inks. You need a wet pen and I would add a drop of Photo Flo just to keep it flowing.

Thick is a great descriptor. They look especially viscous in the bottle, too. I have this and Rachmaninov (I'm going to get Dostoevsky as well for science ;-)

I use to have the whole series... I gave most of them to a dip pen artist friend of mine. Because they are "thick" they work wonderfully with dip pens.

 

 

 

Years later I ended up getting Dostoyesky and Chekov.. my artist daughter loves to use them for sketches.. (dip pen too)
