Starwalker. Real Or Fake

SAWESQ

Recommended Posts

This seems to be a popular topic but I just purchased a Starwalker Platinum Resin Rollerball online and I am having trouble determining whether it is real or fake. I have attached pictures. What it has going for it. Pix under the clip, Germany under the clip, Resin glows red. My biggest concern is the location of the serial number. Based on what I have read real numbers begin with two letters so I am ok there. However, I have yet to see one with the serial number located on the Clip. Still within the return period so please help me either get my money back or easy my mind that I have acquired another pen at a reasonable price. $190.00 post-135450-0-16430100-1489504884_thumb.jpgpost-135450-0-10514300-1489504844_thumb.jpgpost-135450-0-53482100-1489504831_thumb.jpg

That is the correct location for the serial number on a StarWalker. Like has been said on other threads, there are a lot of high grade counterfeits of this pen on the market. Authentication may be difficult.

It is often possible to know a pen is a fake based on pictures but it is nearly impossible to tell if one is authentic based on pictures.

Hello and welcome to FPN. :W2FPN:

Well it's not a rollerball, it's a ballpoint. Nor is it authentic. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it's an easy fake to spot with that serial number and it's position.

Sorry Cordovian, but that is not the correct position for the serial number on an authentic Starwalker. It should be on the cap band to the right of the clip and alongside the 3 horizontal lines. That particular serial number is not an authentic one in any case.

OP I recommend you get your money back while you can. :)

Thank you all so much for taking the time to look at this pen and determine it was not authentic. I requested a refund through Amazon and it was approved so y'all saved me from throwing about $190 down the drain. I guess with such good imitations on the market it is just easier to save my time and effort trying to locate a "deal" and just buy a new one from MB. Thanks again for your time.

As a general rule I buy the seller as much as the product.

Hey Guys,

As far as I know, the first series of Starwalkers (introduced and sold in 2003) had the serial number just where your ballpoint has it. The position was changed later.

So if the seller told you it is brandnew, than it would be a fake. If it is claimed as used, it might be an original Montblanc.

It was not claimed to be new. Described as used in good condition. No Box or papers. I was looking for a pen for daily use not something to store away that was in mint condition.

I just got off the phone with MB. While they cannot authenticate without actually seeing this I learned the following. Garfield16 was absolutely correct that the early production of the starwalker had the serial number located on the clip. Second, the serial number on the pen matched that issued to Black resin starwalkers made at the beginning of there production. Inscribing Pix and made in Germany or germany changes periodically to cut down counterfeiting. Knowing those things puts me in an awkward position.

Return the pen, and buy a MB pen from a reputable source, not from some random guy on eBay.

This means that just by looking at photos there is no way to determine whether this pen is authentic.

The Starwalker is commonly faked. I would be careful.

Serial number on my Starwalker Extreme:

The pen that the OP asked us about was a normal Starwalker with a normal clip and band though. Nothing like an Extreme that has a completely different band.

Yeah, I think I am going to go with the return it and buy from MB option. Thanks again for all the input.
