Hi all, I'm keep trying practicing with this grip. (Also, thx for the previous reply too)

However, I read the answer of previous post tooooooooooooo late.

so the thing was...

I have to write with ARM MOVEMENT ONLY. (is this right? not even wrist movement?)

..but.....I was using plenty of finger movement. and wrist too.

and I pretty much lost on this part.

ARM MOVEMENT ONLY.

Does anybody have some sample video or gif or some nice explanation about this method?

Simply, I cannot control with only arm movement. AT ALL.

You are going to get much better answers from, well everyone else. I only move my arm when the nib can no longer stretch to the end of the word. That's probably wrong but still. Words are formed.

This is argued back and forth, and up and down. No real answer, just different philosophies on what is happening when you write. Just work on your hand and try different approaches to writing. Also be aware that each script has a different feel, a different rhythm. And you are learning how to produce that rhythm for the best results.

Best of luck,

Yours,
Randal

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

If you just started, it will take you a long time.

When I converted from finger writing to arm writing, it took me THREE MONTHS, of daily practice, before I could write with my arm without regressing to finger writing. And another 3 months before the arm writing was decently good.

Do the drills, not letters.

The drills gets your muscles used to writing the shapes that it needs to write.

Like me, you are teaching the large arm muscles to do fine motor movements that it never had to do before. And that takes a LOT of repeating over a long period of time, to build muscle memory. Muscle memory does not come in a few days.

You are also learning why many of us use an oblique dip pen holder. It is easier to use than the grip you are trying to learn, because I do not have to change my grip.

Drill means just repeating lower Ls right?

with ARM MOVEMENT only?

consider getting a 16x20 art pad and taping a sheet to the wall. then use a crayon to practice.

when that feels easy, put the sheet on a table.

when that feels easy, use a pen.

AC knows better than me on this....I'm still much too much hand and finger and not the free flowing arm.

I do write better 'forefinger up' in I no longer use the Death Grip nor the dreaded killer Kung Fu thumb pinch.

Could help if the platform I write on is two inches high of old notes...ah and an old mag with a good article of beer in it.

I imagine a flat table would be easier to use my arm well. ;)

Loops, forward and reverse

Humps, and "u"s

and a few others.

They are in the various instructions manuals.

Yes ARM movement only. That is what you are trying to train, your arm muscles.

Thx sir, I just started to practice that stuff.

Do you know any recommended manuals?

and how did you feel when you fixed the grip and when it worked well?

A few things:

1 - I did not change to the grip you are changing to, I kept the standard tripod grip that I had.

2 - I just changed from finger writing to arm writing. Ha, just, that was the primary and MAJOR change.

3 - In general, I went back to standard Palmer/Business Writing/et.al. letter-forms, nothing fancy. Essentially, the same as what I learned in grade school. I got the instruction books off the Iampeth web site. I think they are in the 'rare books' section.

4 - I did keep some of my own personalized letter-forms, where I did not like how the standard letters looked.
