Information On An Eclipse Pen

Hello colleagues. I hope that I am posting this in the correct forum.

 

I have an Eclipse pen that I like very much, and I wonder if anyone out there can provide more information on it.

 

I wonder if there is a MODEL number, and if there is an approximate DATE for the pen. I see that there is a patent date of 1925 on the clip, but if anyone has information beyond that, I would be most grateful! THANKS!

I was hoping that someone might be able to provide information on a pen that I have: It's an Eclipse gold overlay, but there is no model number or other information on the pen itself.

 

I posted an inquiry on a different forum and was told that it was the wrong one, so I am hoping this is the correct one. Any help regarding the model, the approximate dates of production, etc., will be greatly appreciated.

A fine looking pen, in very good shape.....

 

Gold filled is more gold than rolled gold...I don't remember exactly how much...one is +5%, the other less. Either is two plates of gold pressed together under huge pressure over a base metal making one sheet of metal.

Much better than any plating.

The clip on the pen was designed by David Kline who worked for Eclipse founder Marx Finstone. The date indicates when the patent for the clip was awarded. Hence the pen was made sometime after 1925.

Filigree overlays were very popular in the 1910’s and early ’20’s, almost every pen maker offered one in either sliver or gold. An Eclipse offering in silver.



By 1929 the Roaring Twenties were in full swing, and pen making was moving to using brightly colored celluloid’s rather than black hard rubber. This movement from the Victorian, ornate filigree to sleek, brilliant plastic did not deter Eclipse who continued to apply filigrees over the new fangled plastic well into the ’30’s.

The effect is akin to a Flapper wearing a bustle.

Your nib is very likey original to the pen. Branded Eclipse nibs did not appear regularly, until 1925, when the company opened a facility in Toronto, and those were largely gold plated, stainless steel nibs.

Thanks so much for the information! I did see the 1925 date for the patent on the clip, so I had a rough idea of its production time. I was just hoping that it had a model number to help me identify it more precisely.

 

It doesn't hold a lot of ink, but the nib is really nice!
