111 Inks Compared (Including Many Rare Sailor Exclusives)

I thought that in the interests of the forum (and to help my organisation a bit too), I'd scan in all my inks. They're arranged on Mnemosyne Word Cards (RIP), and most are true to colour.

Comments welcome - and I'd love to hear your favourites. Enjoy!

Yeah, that's going to extend my wishlist pretty extensively. Thanks for doing all the work to put this together.

Pleasure to be of service!

On one minor note: I'm not sure why some of the Hougado Pen Gallery inks are labelled as "Houdago".

Love this! Thanks for taking the time and effort.

It says a lot about the variety of ink that is available these days. You posted 111 different ink samples. I have 156 different ink bottles and samples (let's say it's mostly samples, in case my wife reads this ). And yet, out of all that, we only have 21 overlaps.

Interesting... I found that I tended increasingly towards the Japanese inks as those were the ones I was using primarily, because of their good nature and predictability. I have a soft spot for Diamine, too, as their sheer number of colours is astounding. I actually had a dozen or so Noodler's too, but I tossed them out before cataloguing as none performed consistently enough to ever find their way into a pen.

What are your primary brand 'samples'? ;)

The bulk of my 'accumulation' came from my early 'see it, buy it' phase (glad your post wasn't around then...). I'm trying (really!) to be more deliberate now, and use up some of what I have (estimated at 3 lifetimes worth).

A quick scan shows I have the most colors of Noodler's, followed by Diamine, Organics Studio, and Private Reserve. I'm trying to stay as far away as possible from the top shelf inks so as to resist their siren song. I'm fortunate that there is relatively little of what I have that I dislike, and plenty that I like very much.

I am trying to get writing samples in both a good notebook and a crummy one, so I have a record of how each ink reacts to different paper. I was also going to to the Word Card thing to make side-by-side comparisons easier, but (sadly? fortunately?) they were discontinued before I got started. Instead, I am using 4x6 index cards from the dollar store.

That took a lot of time to construct - Thank you.

Breathe. Take one step at a time. Don't sweat the small stuff. You're not getting older, you are only moving through time. Be calm and positive.

What an impressive system you have! I used to keep track of my inks in a notebook and then that kind of fizzled... haha I love seeing all of your inks side by side. Thank you for sharing them!

Just thought I should share the method behind the madness with you; there's a lot of information packed into the small swatches. I'll post the new inks once I have a chance to catalogue them...
