Long Island Ny Pen Show 2017

Hi,

I saw that the Long Island Pen show for 2017 is scheduled for April 1st and 2nd [LINK].

I haven't been to this show for over 5 years. Thinking of going this time. How large is it, compared to the old NY/NJ pen shows that used to be scheduled?

I went last year --- I remember it as about the size of a elementary school gym if not, smaller.

I have never been to the old NY/NJ shows, so can't tell how it compares...

Huh. That's later than it's been some years (usually it's up against something that is in a completely different direction that I'm kinda committed to -- either the trip down or the trip back). Of course, I think I'm tentatively committed to something *else* that weekend (even if it's finishing income taxes...). And it's a bit of a hike from where I live. OTOH, if I stayed with my in-laws, I could maybe take the train out to Long Island from the city....

I went last year and enjoyed it. (Can't go this year due to a prior commitment.). To give you a little perspective, the Andersons were there last year, driving from Wisconsin, so they felt it was worth the drive. I don't know how far you have to travel, but it's a good show. My experiences are limited, though, having only been to Boston (small), and DC (Huge). I'm looking forward to Dallas this year.

How big is the Long Island Show compared to the Commonwealth Show? I went a year and a half ago and it was TINY compared to DCSS and Ohio.

Come now Ruth, the DC Show is in a class by itself. Nothing else in the US is that big. Not a fair comparison. Ohio and Chicago I think tie for second, and all else trails behind.

The LI show is much larger than it was last time you were there Gary. Two or three years ago it reached critical mass and took off - doubling, or maybe tripling the size of the show over previous years when it was in just one third of the the space available. Many more vendors, including FPH have come. For a regional show, I think it's pretty good.

Ruth---

It's pretty hard for me to compare, but I don't think it's an exaggeration to say it's 3 to 4 times the size of the Commonwealth show. I'll go back to both, as they're both driveable for me.

Only one week until the show. So I'm wondering who from FPN is attending this year as visitors? I know I'll be there on Saturday. I'm mostly hoping to get a couple nibs tuned. I don't really have anything special I'm looking for in pens or inks.

But if anyone is going hopefully we'll get to say hi!.

Cheryl, unfortunately, I won't be going this year! Sorry I'll miss you!

The Long Island Pen Show features sixty-five tables packed full of quality Exhibitors with a board representation of vintage and modern pens and associated writing supplies and equipment. The Long Island show is more intimate than the larger shows and consequently less intimidating. The show is comparable in size to the New York show in its later years. With four on-site pen repair and maintenance people the LI Pen Show has a great deal to offer the New York pen community. Located in the large multipurpose room in the Hofstra University Sandra and David S. Mack Student center, the show offers copious free parking, a large multi-national food court and even a bank with ATM in the building. Below is a partial list of the show features.

Thanks for the photo -- that gives me a better idea of the size.

Sadly, it looks as if LI isn't in the cards for me after all. Maybe next year....

For all those who *are* going, have fun!

Terry, might we see Marion Brown, the East Coast Pen-goddess, with the Fountain Pen Hospital?
