Hi Christof,

I agree that the brochure is not from 1980. The brochure does not state that the Safari line is new but it does state that the Series 90, Series 91 and Series 290/291 are new. I have the Series 90 but I don’t know the date it was introduced... Do you know? This would date the leaflet.

Also, it definitely states that the available colours are, “Matte Black, Terra Red, Safari Green, and White”, which must be Savanna, Terracotta (Terra-rot), Umbra (Charcoal) and Alpin. I suspect the brochure is therefore from a couple of years later, perhaps about 1982/3. The Umbra is available in exactly the same generations as the Savanna and Terracotta, and was available very soon after them. The Alpin is not available in exactly the same generations, in that the first Alpin generation has a W Germany imprint at its end (ie. I believe the blank end does not exist). So I think the earliest date for this brochure must be from the year that the Alpin was introduced. I cannot be certain, but I think the Savannah/Terracotta came in 1980, the Umbra probably in 1981 and the Alpin probably in 1982. The next colour I believe was Rot, ie. Red, so this leaflet was before then. So, I would suggest late 1982 or first few months of 1983. I suspect that the Red was introduced in 1983 but I may well be wrong.

How would you date this leaflet, Christof? Do you know the date that the Series 90 was introduced? Do you know the year that Alpin and Red were introduced? I am estimating for the Alpin and Rot but perhaps you know with better certainty?

Interesting!

Chris

Hi Chris

I think that the Lamy Unic is from 1984, but I don't find a proof for that.

This are the dates of the early Safari colours, confirmed by LAMY customer service:

So according to these dates, the leaflet must be from 1984 since this is the year the Umbra was introduced but I am open for other informations.

Thanks Christof - thats really interesting because the Umbra comes in an earlier generation (blank end) than the Alpin. Unless anyone possesses (or has seen) an Alpin with a blank end please?
