There are some retailers who have some stock available, but the combination chosen could be on order. But a 3-6 month turnaround is about right for a Nakaya that is not in stock, again the out of stock could be a nib, clip, nib color, etc.

It is hard to wait that long for a pen, but a Nakaya is well worth the wait. Enjoy!

Remember that the total staff at Nakaya is four old men. And sometimes we jess don't move as fast as we once did.

I'm not sure what retailer you ordered from. When I ordered from nibs.com I was told a 3-6 month delivery but ended up receiving the pen much sooner. I don't know if you'll experience something similar but I think 3-6 months is a standard timeframe for anything not currently in stock.

I'm not as familiar with the Briarwood but it's possible that the model you ordered is either very popular (so the supply is limited) or uncommon (so the demand is limited), either of which could extend the waiting time.

An option would be to buy a Platinum briar wood.A lot of people seem to consider the Nakaya and Platinum nibs to be the same. I don't know if it's true, bit Platinum nibs are really amazing.

While Platinum makes the nibs for both the #3776 and for Nakaya there is a small difference. The Nakaya nibs are made in small batches and then get installed and tuned by one of two people; Mr. Watanabe or Mr. Maruyama.

Small volumes can make big differences.

Not sure if it comes in SM nib, and this might depend on the retailer. But what Jar is underlying regarding production process makes sense (although some trouble did happen with Nakaya nibs as well).

I had ordered a Nakaya Writer Portable, Aka Tamenuri-Writer from Igunasell. Ordered on the 10th of January, was told I'm looking at June for delivery! Received an email today stating it has arrived in their shop and will be shipped Monday!

Similar to my Shu Nurippanashi, ordered 05/01/17, was told 2 to 3 months wait, arrived in their shop 31/01/17, delivered 3 days later! So can be variable. I was hoping I'll get some time to save up for the Aka Tamenuri but my wallet is going to take a hit this month!

Your wait is definitely not uncommon for the hand-crafted urushi work of Nakaya. The pen is worth the wait. If I had to start my pen collection over again, I would have to make a tough choice of only collecting Nakaya pens (and the resulting much smaller size of my collection!).

Here's to hoping that the delivery happens faster.

Just an update, since this post the pen they sent me was the Aka Tamenuri Long! I returned it as I wanted the portable writer. As of 20th March the tentative delivery time is 4 months!
