2017 La Pen Show Report

Recommended Posts

"Last year a young man attended the show and said his grandfather passed away and he wanted to sell his grandfather’s pens. This year he brought the entire collection with the intent to sell."

So I'm confused, what was in the box ? :)

He brought 25 pen cases containing his grandfather's collection. The picture with the Waterman's was one of the 25 cases. I left it as an exercise for people to figure out which Waterman pens were in the case. The large pen in that case is a chased Waterman #20

Thank you for providing such a great report! ALMOST as good as being there!...Better cause I don't do crowds well! Loved seeing familiar faces and so many gorgeous pens!

Hope to make more Posse meet ups to hear the stories in person!

Thank you very much for a magnificent report, and insightful commentary, as well as sharing some of your purchases. I enjoyed reading the report, and very interested to see photos of pens I didn't know were even being made - like the Taccia and Laban Urushi. The Stylo-Art pens are great, definitely need to acquire one of those.

Ricky, it was awesome to see you again and thank you for the wonderful report.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Thanks for the show report. It is helping me to decide on attending the next one as my replacement pick to the DC Supershow.

Rob Maguire (Plse call me "M or Mags" like my friends do...)I use a Tablet, Apple Pencil and a fountain pen. Targas, Sailor, MB, Visconti, Aurora, vintage Parkers, all wonderful.

Having been to both LA and SF, I have to put in a STRONG endorsement for the San Francisco show this August. Immensely fun show.

I think for me the issue is a new house to enjoy this summer and when its 30 or 40 below zero i will look forward to LA way more in Feb. DC in Aug is always too humid and hot. I loved the show and people but man it was sticky out which prompted flying to it versus driving.

I value the SF recommendation so putting both on my bucket list along with a show in the UK one day.

Yes, I hear that a lot at the LA show from people who live in silly-cold areas of the planet (LA is just a 2 hour drive for me). Except for this past year, when we had an unusually rainy 'winter/spring', it is usually mild to warm, and the visitors enjoy the clime almost as much as the pens!
