Inconsistent Red Gold Plating Color On 90Th Anniv Pens

Recently I stopped by the boutique to pick up my replacement 90th anniversary LeGrand (corrosion on piston knob ring, repair center has been out of parts for months supposedly) and noticed that the colors of the red gold plating on the two pens were visibly different. The trim on one pen was much less red, while its nib was actually more red, than my original. To me this would signal either a change in alloy formulation or poor QC.

Has anyone else noticed this variation, on either the 90th or the regular red gold models?

I believe that it is very common unfortunately, many people including me have noticed it on their pens.

That's quite disappointing. Thanks for your reply.

Hello:

The gold red color, and the rose color too, is made by plating method, It isn't massive gold.

I had problems with the coating of the anniversary special series, and you can see how it has chipped in this photo.

And you can see brassing on nib in this picture.

The rose gold of 75th is nondurable to my regret . My 149's plate is worn off in places.

I had the rose gold come off the clip of my 75th LE 146. Although the 149 LE is amazing, I can use the 149 SE with less fear since it is the regular yellow gold.
