I see a lot of variation in LdT out of the same bottle. I assume it depends on the juiciness of the nib of the pen I'm using, the paper, how long the ink has been in the pen, and how carefully I flushed a pen before filling it. I happen to like that variation. Caffe crema seems to consistently fall outside of LdT's range, but in a pleasing way.

Amazing review, you have beautiful and mesmerising handwriting. This looks like a lovely ink, I do like the colour but am put off by the dryness/ hard starts you mention. I just don't have time to faff with unwilling inks, what a shame.

I'm very particular about browns, but I like this color a lot because it has very little green in it. Since some others have said they don't have the lubrication issues, I ordered a bottle to see if maybe the issues were just caused by something with the sample. I'm hopeful.

Thanks for the review. Interesting color. I immediately thought it was close to Herbin's Lie de thé. Then you posted the comparison and it seems to be different from Lie de thé... My bottle of LdT is much lighter and has more yellow than your writing sample - perhaps Herbin changed their formula (or maybe it's just my monitor).

 

I did the comparison with a glass did pen, which can sometimes make the color seem different, especially if the ink shades a lot. But just to make sure, I did go back and check my ink journal & the LdT sample seems consistent with other pen samples. Maybe it's pen choice?

Me too, I am very fond of them, especially the deep, moody, saturated ones. I don't mind the green notes at all. I appreciate your comparisons too, fantastic. Have you compared CC with Diamine's Ancient Copper? I was reminded of that from the shading in your review.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. I dipped an EF Vanishing Point so you could see; that is the finest nib I have. It loses a lot of the shading & is lighter because there is less ink laid down. But, it doesn't spread, so the line stays fine. In my doodle, the lines inside the squares are with the EF except for the vertical lines on the face of the square, which are from a glass dip pen.

I tried to do a comparison for you, but my Ancient Copper is at least 4 years old & wow, did it get red since the last time I used it. It has lost most of the brown that makes it such a great color.

PS, your review has made me want to clean all my pens and get all my brown inks out! I think I will refill Noodler's Walnut and MB Toffee Brown first thing in the morning... 😂

Yes. Feathers, spreads, maybe flows a bit too much. All of those things can make for wider lines I suppose.

Thanks for the review, I can confirm that this ink's flow is not good, at least not as good as the standard Waterman blue.

 

I got the ink from Jetpens.com, for the whole bottle....well, yeah, it works great on one of my "too wet" pens.
