Affordable Really Broad (Round) Bb, Bbb Nibs ?

Thanks for the response. These both seem like good options, but I can't seem to find anywhere that sells them. The Jinhao's are on amazon, but none with a fude nib. There are some options on ebay, but from all over the place, hong kong, UK, etc... Does anyone sell these pens in Canada?

ipenstore carries the jinhao fude nib in sizes 5 and 6 for less than $3.

I think the normal steel Lamy nib in broad is round. Feels like a felt tip transformed in a fountain pen. You could buy a nib for your Joy and just change it. (costs around 4€)

Too expensive: Lamy 2000 broad. I like this one too, but it is a bit stubbish, but really smooth.

Kanwrite, an Indian company, makes BB nibs that are terrific. I hope to have more in the near future.

Thanks everyone. Great community here; everyone so willing to help out. So the other day I received a HERO 9018 with a fude nib in the mail. And... it's pretty awesome. Very thick lines, about as thick as my Lamy 1.9 on most papers I've used. But unlike the Lamy, it's not a stub so I get almost the same line in all directions. And with the ability to vary the line thickness by changing the angle of the pen/nib to the paper, it can make for a lot of interesting and differing line widths. Very cool. And when I need a finer line, I just flip it upside down, and get a very thin line. How thin? I'm not sure because I don't currently have any nibs finer than a Broad nib (although I hope to rectify this very soon. I can say though that it's a very thin line by most standards.

My first fude nib, and I don't think it will be my last. The pen itself has a good weight to it and feels very balanced unposted. I'm sure there's lots of other reviews online for this pen, so I'll leave it at that, but I really like it, and for a cheap pen (comparatively) if you didn't know it was cheap, I don't think you'd think it was.

Thanks everyone.

The C Nib in Pilot is round and thick, broad and wet. I got my Pilot 912 Heritage ordering from Japan directly for $140, depending on the exchange rate. Very help purchase, especially with a screw-in cap.

The sheaffer Predule B nib is not too bad, approx a 0.9 to 1 mm line. If one is lucky, whilst on sale, one can get for $40 - 60 for a steel nib. It is wider than the standard #6 Jowo nibs that you can purchase in the net for $10 - 15.

Other ones, like Sheaffer Tagra 14k B nib are also juicy, round and broad, similar to the Pilot C nib. Lucky to got one last year for $140 in isellpen.com

I am in constant look for thick nibs (not the flat stub that one just cut or grind away), but the price range are getting out of hand (the Sheaffer Heritage B has a nib think round nib, but are >$200).

Hope the above helps.

Thanks Benpiggy for the additional info. What is a 'C' nib ? Is this specific to Pilot ? A bit pricey, but perhaps in the future. My limited exposure to Pilot (the Metropolitan) is pretty good. I didn't think I would like a fine nib, but that one in particular (maybe I got lucky ) is very smooth out of the box, and no complaints at all. So I can't imagine a thick Pilot nib... the more I think of it, it may be worth $140 lol.

The Sheaffer is thicker than a TWSBI broad nib you think ?

Thanks :)

Platinum also has the Coarse nib available on their 3776 pen, which is $95.10 CA from Amazon, with free shipping. I bought one from Amazon US which had Prime free shipping & it is a VERY broad nib.

C nib is the Cosu Nib, the broadest that Pilot made. Wider than the Pilot BB.

The FPN tread titled "Can't Make Up My Mind! Pilot Custom 74, Ch91, Ch92 Or Platinum 3776", page 2 has some info. It is as broad as I could afford, before getting into the very expensive German BB / BBB nib.

The Sheaffer steel nib size varies a bit. The one I have - Prelude B, made in China, is the broadest steel I have. I feel it is thicker than the TSWBI B (I have both).

Prelude B is slightly wider than Sheaffer Intensity and the Taranis B is the thinnest.

Sheaffer Tagra Gold B nib is the best. Valor and Legacy B is even a touch wider than the Tagra.

On the auction site, these are sometimes listed as "bent nib", sometimes as " calligraphy" nib (Chinese calligraphy). Just be sure to check the pictures to make sure it's got the bend you're looking for. Jinhao also has a number of pens with these nibs.

I'm wondering whether at these prices it's worth getting a supply of Jinhaos to put fude nibs into some of my western pens ... but will they fit?

Recent vintage broad nibs I like very much: Waterman Exclusive, in gold, and Parker 45 (gold or steel). Quite rounded and quite juicy, and available in OP's budget.

Too many pens, too little time!

Permit me to offer another endorsement for the Coarse (a.k.a. "C", "Cosu" or "Cors") nib versions of the Platinum 3776 Century and Pilot Custom 74.

Great link gzp ! That Duke 551 is enormous! lol. Very awesome looking thick lines. Like a brush. Seems hard to get from Canada from my quick amazon.ca search, but good video comparing the different fude nibs. Thanks!
