M200 red demonstrator, EF nib. Arrived yesterday.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

I picked up a M215 Rings last week and love it! I have had an amber M200 demonstrator for years and this is a good upgrade. I like the added weight the M215 brings. The fine nib is smooth and writes really well.

Pretty. I agree with you, the added weight on these makes for a fine writing experience. Hmm. I should get mine out, it's been awhile since it was in the rotation. Thanks for the good idea!

The pen actually doesn't belong to my flock but occupies the same premises.

I have mixed feelings when comparing it to older Pelikans but on its own it's rather a pretty and well made pen. Certainly looks better in hand than in pictures.

Hi birchtine,

you're right, there was no historic 101N in Bright red, but who cares...

Have a look at my pen side by side with the historic 101.

A nice pair!

Dominic, your picture captures nicely the real difference between the deeper marbled colour of the pen and the plain red knob and cap top. Thanks!

I'm a bigger fan of the original 101 than this current production mode. Great pic Dominic.

PELIKAN - Too many birds in the flock to count. My pen chest has proven to be a most fertile breeding ground.

Personally, I wouldn't mind using a modern 100 or 100N. They are still excellent pens. I love Pelikan quality, smaller dimensions and lightness, and still like their nibs. It is just the price which doesn't in my opinion justify the purchase. I wish the Pelikan decided to include the M101N in their regular range and to lower the price to the M400 level.

So my first Pelikan arrived yesterday.....a 1950's 140 with a medium nib.

Any advice on what to expect writing experience wise?

All in the nib, man, it's all in the nib ;) I have two of those in black, one has the older style M-sized nib with the simple Pelikan 585 14 KARAT engraving, the other one an M too but a later/more modern one with the two chevrons/round shield.

The older one has more flex but it is also sharper, there is this kind of a pleasant drag to it. The newer one is definitely much smoother but not as flexy. I love both as daily writers (part of my EDC kit) for their qualities. They are otherwise comparable to the semi-flexy 100N's that I have (with there also the "modern" type nibs being by default slightly more stiff).

There is of course variation within those groups also, for example I have a bunch of 100N with nibs that vary from very flexy to very slightly flexy/soft (not a manifold nib though). So it all depends on the nib you have in that pen.

Anyway, based on what I have read and experienced myself you do have a good chance of getting to play with a flexy/semi-flexy nib of the type which are (IMHO) one of the best writers out there. The 140 is all in all a very lovely (and somewhat underrated) pen.

At last, an M450 Green Tortoise. Woo hoo! It's got an EF stub; I prefer broader nibs but I'll give it a fair chance. Pics and writing sample once I get all the dried black ink out of it. Ugh but well worth the effort.

Wow! The M450 is a gorgeous pen. Congratulations.

My Pelikan M101N in brown tortoise arrived today, inked it up with 4001 Königsblau in one of the bottles with the historic print. Shown beside my two other Pelikan. (Planning on adding some of the other M101N pens, along with some nib units, in the near future)

The M405 Stresemann and M405 in Striated Blue I ordered last week have apparently made it out of the ISC in NYC and, at last count, have made it to a USPS sort facility in Kearny, NJ. :cloud9:
