Cross Townsend Sterling Ballpoint

Have Cross stopped making the Townsend Sterling silver models ??

I was originally looking to see how much they are charging nowadays for the ballpoint to get some idea of a reasonable price for a used example. After a lot of searching on line at various stockists I could find no examples of Townsend sterling silver range. In fact the only place I could find any on offer was the well known store in the U.S. where they offer pens at above the rates the manufacturers quote.

Astonished to find that Cross high end pens are now Star wars limited edition which seem to contain no silver at all.

Taking a leaf from the book held by the above retailer Cross seem to be saying if you can't beat them join them hence

the ludicrously high price of these intrinsically worthless pens.

By the way if anyone knows where I could buy a Silver Townsend or for that matter an 18kt coated example with a solid 18kt nib could you let me know.

I got my usa made sterling townsend bp new for $180 a number years ago when cross was doing them in sterling. On ebay i see them going for $200 to $300 now. They are more rare now and cost more to acquire one. Maybe if you are lucky you might win a bid for cheap.

I have one of the USA Sterling Silver Townsend BPs I picked up in 2007 for $98, according to my database records. (Jonro's excellent database, to be specific.)

No forseeable plans on selling it (sorry). It is a beautiful pen and mine still has the original blue medium refill. If a Townsend fan, it is definitely worth the effort and current high cost to track one of the USA pens down, if you haven't already.
