Paper Recommendation In Santa Cruz, Ca

For anyone in the area who isn't familiar with Darco Paper and Printing on Doyle St in the Seabright area perpendicular to Soquel Ave near the Whole Foods. They sell reams of printing paper, envelopes, cardstock, precut business cardstock, stamps, office use pencils and pens, erasers, China markers, folders, and document storage boxes, among other office supplies. They do print jobs there too and from time to time have random estate sale items that they sell. Adds to their charm.

I highly recommend them for inexpensive 'scratch pads' of various sizes, weight, and color. Inexpensive means between 29 and 89 cents per pad! I have found that their heavier pads are FP friendly. The pads aren't labeled so I can't say what weight it is, but I often purchase a ~5x8 cream colored 89 cent pad for writing letters.

I go there about once a month to re-up on envelope bundles (~$3-4 for 20) and other a small gummed pads. They also design some 'things to do today' pads. I believe they are bound in-house. It's a little mom and pop tucked away that is beloved among many of my artist friends in town and I recommend them to anyone I can.

Open Monday thru Friday 9-5

Waiiit. You've been testing various paper stocks and you haven't asked what the stock is? Please please PLEASE pleeease ask. I'm betting they make at least some of the pads from left over stock from other work. FPN members are constantly searching for new papers to use. The name of the manufacturer and paper would be a help.

Pretty please?

Next time I go (probably Friday) I'll ask them what the stock is just for you! *finger guns*

Alright folks, I found out the name of the paper stock from Darco Paper that I enjoy so much that is also fountain pen friendly. The photos aren't great, but they give you an idea.

And I'm off…

Springhill is a brand of International Paper: (stock info flyer)

http://www.internationalpaper.com/docs/default-source/english/products/north-america/papers/stock-source-book/ssbopaques.pdf

Available in Blue, Canary, Cream, Goldenrod, Gray, Green, Ivory, Orchid, Pink, Tan

In three weights- [bond (offset)]- 24 (60), 28 (70). The 20 (50) is only available in parent (really big) sized stock.

And standard sizes- 8 1/2x11, 8 1/2x14, 11x17

A quick search showed these sellers for the 70# cream letter size:

Staples- ($19.99/ream) http://www.staples.com/IP-Springhill-Opaque-8-1-2-inch-x-11-inch-70-lbs-Colored-Copy/product_195001

Distinct Papers- ($12.95/ream) https://distinctpapers.com/shop/us/springhill-opaque-smooth-paper-024070

Limited Papers- ($14.04/ream) http://www.limitedpapers.com/springhill-offset-cream-70-8-5-x11-024070.html

Check the brochure linked above for stock numbers on different colors and sizes. Overall it looks like a broad based business paper. Having not seen it I'm assuming it could be a good replacement for HP 32#, especially if you want colored paper.

Thanks for getting the info.
