Lamy And Parker Cartridges - Interchangeable

ErrantSmudge

I'm starting this thread to make this topic more visible. It started out as a discussion in the middle of the TOD - Purple thread.

Lamy Violet ink is available only in cartridge form, which normally can be used only in Lamy pens.

But it turns out that Lamy and Parker cartridges are interchangeable, at least on some level.

Here is a Lamy cartridge being used in a Parker pen.

The barrel screws on without issues.

I have two Aurora pens, both outfitted with Parker converters. So I wondered if a Lamy cartridge works with an Aurora pen as well. For at least one Aurora pen, the answer is yes.

If anyone has Lamy or Parker cartridges, please report here with your experiences!

Thank you for sharing this information. I was thinking that my cartridges looked the same, but I could not tell. I also think the Levenger Magnus cartridges will fit the Lamy and Parker, but I haven't tried that (yet).

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I never use cartridges, but have used a Lamy converter in a Parker 45 without problems.

I was quite excited to try this out but while mine fitted in snugly, it hasn't managed to suck in ink so I'm afraid of the ink leaking out (or even drying out). Is your converter the one that has two guide-nipples on the sides?

I bought that same Aurora pen while on a trip to Italy. It came with one cartridge. When I got home, I was unable to find Aurora cartridges or converters, but I did find that I could use a Parker converter.

No experience with Lamy

I did use Parker Quink cartridges in my 30 years old Safari for a while but it wasn't ideal - they always worked loose after a while and started leaking so I gave up on the idea.

Can I ask if this is still working?

I know the skinny end of the Lamy cartridge fits some pens....but :headsmack:  I forgot which.

What ever pen(s) it was I either didn't have or did have cartridges for it.

One can suck the ink out of a violet cartridge and put it in another or screw out the Pelikan nib and squirt it into the Pelikan.

I only did the experiment once - but I used both Lamy cartridges until empty (Lamy in the Parker and Lamy in the Aurora) and I didn't run into any issues. No leaks, nothing worked loose. No damage to either pen.

I haven't tried the flip side of the experiment (a Parker cart in a Lamy pen) because I don't have any Parker cartridges. Maybe I'll pick up a few next ink order.

Which model of Lamy converter was that please?

I have tried this in the past and dispite using some very firm pressure could not get the cartridge to seat properly, either Parker to Lamy or vice versa.

There was also the FPN tale a few years ago of somone who owned a Parker 51 2002 Limited Edtion who forced a Lamy cartridge into place and wrecked the Parker section. This was a £400+ pen, aint no more.

Which made me ask, why try and fit a cartrdge to another makers pen when the real deal is readily available.

I don't experiment on pens that expensive. Full stop.

Sure. Behind my query was the fact that I more or less necessarily use Parker converters in older S T Dupont pens. The Aurora Hastil from the same period has a trik-trak. I found in a recent case that the recommended Parker converter did not fit so well in an S T Dupont but a press-bar Parker sac did. I was exploring other options for these cases which already involve some cross-use.

Lamy Z26 (black turning knob, no lugs) fits Parker 25, 45, 75 and Aurora Archivi Storici and Duocart. Lamy Z24/Z28 (red turning knob, lugs) also fits but catches inside the barrel of slimmer pens (sterling 75 but not flighter; Archivi Storici). Older Lamy squeeze converter also fits without catching.

I just got a Parker Vector that didn't come with a converter. I tried the Parker converter I had on hand, the slide mechanism one (I think it's the "Quink" converter?), and it didn't fit well. But I happened to have a Lamy Z28 converter in the same zippy bag, and for the hell of it, I gave it a try. It actually fit better than the Parker converter.

I haven't tried any of the carts yet in that pen, Parker or Lamy, but I'm delighted that the Lamy converter fits. I was able to grab a bunch of Lamy converters when a local store had a closeout on them, so I picked up ten or so, for next to nothing. This turned out to be a fortuitous purchase because the Lamy converters also work on some of my Asian pens, namely the Monami Olika (Korea) and Wing Sung 9130. In fact, the converter that came with the Wing Sung 9130 pen looks exactly like a Lamy Z28 converter, red-top and all.

I would like to confirm that the Lamy cartridges do work in a Parker 25 (P25).  I believe mine is a P25 Mark III as it does not have the vent hole, it does have the indentation on top of the cap, and it says made in england on the cap rather than made in the UK.  I do have a minor leak but I do not think that is the cartridge as it's happening at the nib, inside the cap, and appears to be a pretty common problem with the P25.  The Lamy converter does NOT fit in the P25.  The extra few millimeters prevent the body from screwing back on.
