What Are Some Other Examples Of Ribbed Fountain Pens?

I had a ribbed Platinum 3776 but foolishly sold it. So I've just bought another one (used) from Ebay. Its a very nice pen. I've also got a yellow Bexley Stalwart which is also a pleasant pen, if slightly too small for my liking. I really want the Sailor, but I'm struggling to find one with anything other than a fine nib, which is fairly useless to me.....

Does the Pilot Vortex count? The ribbed rubber section is most of the length of the pen, even if it's one of the least classic looking fountain pens ever made.

No body has mentioned the Parker 75 that has a ribbed section. A great pen.

I realize this is an old thread come back to life, but better late than never, right?

Left to right are Montblanc Virginia Woolf, Diplomat Aero (ribbed longitudinally and a terrific bargain), and two older Sailor 1911L's

Wow! That’s awesome, you guys!

Since I started this thread, I managed to find the parts to a Bexley Gemstone and get it assembled (on road right now, but I can post a pic of it after I’m home). Right next to the Waterman 100 Years it looks like a pretty close match and a swell writer. I’m still interested in a 3776 but haven not pulled trigger yet. I really wanted one with a music nib, which means someone would have to retro fit one on there, but I may be backing away from that stance since I get a really swell Pilot 74 with a music. I saw those Mont Blancs. I’m kind of interested, but I don’t think I can meet the price of them. I have a line on a Sailor, but I’m trying to pay off so many of the pens I bought last year first :)

I tried one of those Diplomats at the Ohio Pen Show this past October. Solid writer.

But I still absolutely love my ribbed pens.

I saw that pen at 10m in my B&M, when he had a sale..... I really like the my eyes only bling nib. With permission of Pentime. My Brownie just don't do professional work.

The outside of the clip is matt.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

For substantially larger ribbing, there's:

Ranga Designer:

and Ranga Bamboo:

IDK if that counts as ribbed, as you're not going to feel that as a texture as much as you would as a shape.

I had mentioned the Ranga, but I've edited my comment because the Ranga is already covered in the post immediately above! I bet you could have a bespoke ribbed ebonite pen for very little expense.

Here's a couple....

At the top is a Kullock bodied and shelled Parker 51. Not quite ribbed, rather more 'bamboo'd'......

Below that is my Bexley Stalwart. I'm not sure if these are about now. I did a search on eBay and could find none for sale and none recently sold.

It's a beautiful and striking pen, but I really hate that jewel on the clip......

The reason the Platinum stands out is that not only is it ribbed a la the Waterman 100 Year pen you so love, but it also has a belly band in imitation of that famous Waterman style.

The old 3776 Gathered pens have ebonite feeds to boot.

I have one. It is glorious. Just back from a trip to Japan for service and good as new. B nib.

My Waterman Lady Elsa has a vertically-ribbed section and I have to say I don’t care for it. It actually makes the section a little slippery - a triumph of design over function.

This is probably true.

I held one of the Taccia Pinnacles that frankb3 mentioned. Not the same feeling at all. A Platinum Gathered is most likely my next purchase. You know, once I finish paying off 2017's pen purchases ;)
