Nice Gama 👍 I have one old Gama demo with ebonite section and cap, but haven't inked that one yet.

Rotation time and it's the turn of Wality 71JT in Green Swirl with Syahi Turquoise Blue ink. The nib is a surprise find from Pen House,  Cochin, Kerala -  it's a Bismi that writes very fine and smooth.  Those from Kerala who used FPs in 70's to 90's might remember Bismi.

Today's pen is Gama Eyas. A beautiful polished black ebonite eye dropper.  A medium size pen, very comfortable to write. I think I filled it with Parker Blue some time back. No drying up at all.

This is now a frank-pen. While trying remove the nib and feed to clean up the pen after a long time I left without using it, broke the feed and the nib too 😭

Now the nib is a replacement nib added to the pen by Subramanian of ASA Pens from whom I bought it in 2016.The feed is from Parker Insignia that also I had to "frank" as it's original feed and nib won't "meet" (a huge gap between them).

Need to get a Gama nib and feed from them in my next trip to India.

Is it a waverley nib ?

Are the nibs made in-house ?

The pen Looks so cool.

What's the filling system ?

How much ?

I love tubular nibs !

Not a waverly nib.

Yes, these nibs were made in-house. They no longer make such nibs or celluloid pens though.

It's an Eyedropper pen.

The ink in Gama Eyas finished. So ASA Athlete takes up the baton. The nib is not original as again I had to change due to mishandling. It is Jinhao 0.5mm. Writes more like medium. Quite smooth. Ink is a mix of a few drops of Pelikan Brilliant Black with Pelikan Royal Blue like 1 drop to 10 drops.

Bought this pen from ASA Pens in 2015 I think. ASA have engraved the name of the model and India and year - probably design year ?

That date seems to be the year of manufacture. I saw a review of Athlete here on FPN from 2016 and year on pen was 2015 on it.

Come what may - keyboard. super duper mouse, i7 laptop, joy of writing with ink doesn't fade and the former (s) need upgrade after a while.  Today ASA I Can took to my pocket.

For the first time I was purchasing a few pens from ASA in 2015. Ordering sitting in Abu Dhabi but getting them shipped to my wife who happened to travel to Kerala ahead of me. I had only a week or 10 days to  got to Kerala and all of us to return together. Asked Subramanian of ASA if the pens can reach me there before we returned to UAE and he said YES I CAN.

Ordered two ASA I Can and few others. Ordered a Blue-Black ripple and a shiny black. Shiny black was not in stock and had to be made for me. The only issue ASA had was to get the black engraved but that would have taken 2-3 days more. So ditched engraving.

My daughter "stole" the beautiful Blue-Black ripple I Can and so I got the Black one.

So today's Indian pen for me is ASA I Can. The original nib was so, so and replaced it with a Jinaho #6. It is quite smooth but was too broad like a B nib though the EBay guy listed it as M nib. Adjusted the tines to reduce it to between F and M.

Seasonal flu struck and working from home. So why not try the clipless and pen unwieldy for shirt or coat pocket?

It is Gama Ezhuthani in Light Brown Ripple - a table pen. Got from ASA pens in 2016 I believe. Very long and slender. You can see the length capped is nearly 20cm!! The name means writing stylus (on palm leaves)

PXL_20231101_065159011.thumb.jpg.6d849df16a2b578e05e16bf2d33943c4.jpg

Now uncapped below. It is long but I don't find it unbalanced to use. The nib is pretty small #4 as per Gama. Had to smoothen it a bit though. The pen was intended for my wife as she likes slender pens. She was not enamored with this so it came to me 🙂

PXL_20231101_065045662.thumb.jpg.6b6fd2786e366fa8b0139a2f928e8be6.jpg

Since it was not used for a long time, I put it in water to remove the crusts of ink my wife had used then. I forgot about it until next day morning and that was a mistake. The cap and nice half of the pen faded. It does not show up in the photo properly but you can make out I think. Bottom is dark and original color, top and cap much lighter. Surprisingly the whole barrel was in water and only half turned lighter (or was it the other way - the bottom half became darker when left in water 😉 )

Any solution to get back the colour?

Regards

You can send it to ASA/Gama and they will polish the pen again to look like new. I too have one or two faded pens but I just use them as it is.

With very tight schedules when we go to India for vacations, to send the pen and get back may not be feasible. I'd also use as is if there is no DIY methods.

While ordering this pen, I had to confirm with ASA if they can deliver before I left India before I placed the order. I also requested them specifically to use Indiapost. India post - lajawab hai. My wife ordered some sarees and the seller used her Whatsapp number (UAE mobile number) as the contact number on the package. Still they traced our place and delivered on time.

For earlier order ASA had used DTDC and those guys took 2 days (no joke) to move the package 15 kms from their Cochin office to my house!!

I have experienced delays with all courier services and even speed post, at one time or another. So these days I don't bother much about them. Yes, with a tight schedule, things can be little hectic for you.

Glad to find a forum dedicated to discussing pens from this part of the world. I am using a few Indian manufactured pens at the moment. A couple from Kanwrite - a Desire Demonstrator and a Emperor Divine Ganesha, a Click Falcon Full Ebonite, and a recently acquired Vazir Patriot 4 (which I have reviewed on my Youtube channel here). Looking to try out some offerings by Ranga, ASA and Gama. Any suggestions?
