I inked up my Pelikan M400 Tortoise last night with Diamine Warm Brown. It's been a long time since I used this pen. :)

Is that the white one, Chriissy?

No the brown one. Not the Souveran (no extra gold plated bands)

I found it brand new lying there in my best friends jewellery shop a few years ago. She gave it to me the following Christmas.

I always thought it was black until I bought a Souveran M400N in blue stripe and black. Then I realised the older tortoise one wasn't black but brown and tortoise. :P

No the brown one

Very nice. A wonderful find.

I have a 1950's brown M400, and you remind me that I haven't used that in quite a while.

I'm not sure how old mine is.

It's a beautiful writer, but I don't find the broad nib on this pen to be broad at all. Having said that, it does have some flex, so I can get a wider line if I feel the need.

OK. I've just looked at the cap band on mine and it has 'W.- Germany' on there. That narrows it down more. :)

So, 1980's or before.

I like the nib in mine so much, that I swap it out to use in the more modern white, that I have. It has more give, and feels softer.

I saw on a different thread 1953 to 1980 something (I think.) I find my nib a little more flexible than I'm used to writing with.

Sounds great. ;)

I now realise why I haven't used the brown 400, for a while. It isn't filling! :(

Who is recommended for repairing piston fillers? it's work beyond my ken.

I suggest Repair forum. It's off topic here :)

Pilot Metal Falcon (light blue version) with soft extra-fine nib and, new to me, Akkerman Chinatown Red ink. After using PR Dakota Red for a long time, the Akkerman ink is nice and bright!

After a bit of a hiatus from FPs, I've just inked:

1) Lamy Safari Vista F with Diamine Prussian Blue and

2) Varuna Rajan with Diamine Saddle Brown.

So that's what I'm using!

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

I ran into the same thing -- had my M400 Brown Tortoise about a year before I realized that the cap and piston cap weren't black.

Today for me, it's been:

Cross Solo, F nib, with Califolio Baikal.

Noodler's Charlie, flex nib, with Noodler's Heart of Darkness.

Parker Vector, F nib, with diluted Noodler's Park Red.
