Good work, praxim...and it's a keeper. Brilliant.

tgoto, doing a little bit of repair work can be very rewarding. A starting point might be simple lever fillers, which need a resac. Esterbrooks or Conway Stewarts are ideal, as they have friction fit sections. There must be lots of others, though.

Thanks Malcolm. It is.

You repair pens too? Nice!

I wish I could do that. :)

You can, I reckon. I simply used the fabulous resource which is FPN to learn and to apply.

In a couple of months I will have all my tools back, after nine months without, so can get on to some slightly more difficult repairs which are waiting.

Thank you for the pointer!

I was wondering which (or what type of) pens I should work on as a complete newbie for a pen repair :)

I will need to learn tools and materials I have to get..

I shall look into a reasonably-priced Esterbrooks

Dream, take one step at a time and achieve. :)

You are absolutely right!

FPN it is!

I was trying to find out where I could learn pen repairs...I was looking far out when the answer was right here :)

So, any pen under $38M* then.

:lticaptd:

My husband freaked at the price of my first Pelikan (a 1990s era M400 Brown Tortoise). When it came to the two M405s I got this spring, he was kinda resigned to it....

Of course, next year, I'm not going to have nearly the budget -- this was a one-off year because I got tired of not getting paid what I did for the sideline business (AKA *his* "midlife crisis" -- MY midlife crisis fits in the footprint of a four by eight sheet of plywood, or just larger than the footprint of one of the propane powered commercial convection ovens -- which he has conventiently forgotten that *I* technically own, since it got paid for out of inheritance money, and I'm pretty sure cost more than ALL the pens and inks put together...). When I don't go to do the annual show next year he might finally appreciate what I did for the past 11 -- including for the three shows where we tanked financially (one of which *I* knew -- going in -- that it was going to be a trainwreck, and I was right...).

Of course now he's talking about possibly doing a brick and mortar location in conjunction with the new space his maker's club is considering taking over.... I have a bad feeling that somehow he's going to need a cashier.....

So today I grabbed my Ahab demonstrator just to add to a list. Then I noticed it had burped horribly into the cap. I thought we'd gotten past that when I switched out the loose converter for one of the cartridges noodlers now makes. But I guess not. Bummed, I cleaned it and put it in the storage-box-of-shame along with other pens I probably won't ever use again.

The rest of the day I mostly just grabbed my Nemosine singularity with a .6 stub. Other pens got a rest before the workweek.

My first Parker 51 arrived today :D Burgundy, with a Chrome cap and a custom grind by Pendleton Brown to a CI. Very lovely writing experience, and the CI suits my writing style down to the ground!

Wow. I'm green. I have had a wild enthusiasm for CI pens of late and my attempts at grinding some are um... er... not as good as that! Congratulations. Will there be a writing sample for us to admire?

Ian, it does have some flex to the nib (14K), however, even with it being a B. nib, it also has some feedback. Being a gold nib, I was somewhat surprised. I guess I was expecting it to be 'smooth as butter.' I almost hate to say that my Wing Sung 698 with a smoothed Pilot Plumix med. italic (without the flex), writes 'almossst' as well. Ian, I know you will understand what I am mean. It is a lovely pen--I can't deny that. A beautiful bourgogne colored resin. I popped the ink cartridge in, and within about 45 seconds I was writing, with excellent ink flow. I definitely don't regret purchasing this pen. If I can find a good deal on the blue 3776, I might add it my collection. I'm believing after using it for a few weeks, the nib will settle 'in' (if you will). -_- .

Apologies, take 2 :)

Thankyou. Beautiful, lucky you. I love the subtle line variation. Very classy.

I agree, the subtle but definite line variation is great. It's not too broad, which means I can use this as a daily writer with my small handwriting :D I was very lucky to come across the pen, thanks must go to migo984!
