Don't Just Tell Us About The Pen You're Using *show* Us!, 2017

In response to a pm from a member who asked what kind the wee bird was that makes an appearance in some of my posts. :glare:

Rather than explain it, I went onto the RSPB website and downloaded the fact sheet, which I've attached below.

Ok, so maybe I didn't. :P I was trying out some new paper, and found that it was ok with finer nibs, but not so great with the broad boys. And it was just a bit of fun, which is what it's all about after all.

And the pens used for this ornithological tomfoolery?

I also used a Jinhao x450, a Jinhao 500, an Italix Captains' Commission, and a Picasso 902 Gentleman.

Ian

This is so cool, also the pens are.

I'm still loving the orange/ turquoise contrast.

Rhodia, Rikyu cha, rubbish riting.

You must be viewing a different picture, EoC, because all I see is wonderful script: even heights, consistent letter shapes, and lovely character to the words formed. Your writing makes me want to read more of it.

While my son was at school, I was locked in an ultimately fruitless quest to persuade him to make his writing like a work of art, to make the reader want to find out what he had written. He has never believed that I wasn't in collusion with his English teacher since, on his first day in senior school, said teacher wrote, "Please make your writing attractive enough to entice the reader".

Love the Scottish Pen Hawk, Ian. It should be clutching an ink stick, rather than perched upon any old branch!

May the Pen Hawk capture many more of its prey species and prosper!

Thanks SNAK

You're right, He should be perched on a pen of some description....He will be the next time. ;)

Ian,

Which ink did you use for the title, to the left of the St Andrew's flag? It is a lovely dark, rich blue, and seems darker than the blue that you finish off with "Caulae Vendo Alba".

Cheers,

David.

Hi David

The sparkles don't show up in the scan for some reason, but the ink is Diamine Blue Pearl.

I really like the blue pearl, I use it in the Churchmans' (bci) to address envelopes and it always raises a comment or two.

The blue for the St Andrews flag and the Caulae bit at the bottom is diluted Baystate Blue.... aaaah! run for cover.

To be honest, I've never had any problems with Baystate Blue, but then I've never spilled any.

In saying that, my Jinhao 500 does have a dyed blue nib, but it goes great with the rest of the pen and looks as if it's the way it should be.

Thanks, I do like messing about a bit with my pens.

Yip, orange and blue is always a striking combo, and the turquoise is very nice.

I'll need to be getting myself some, as it's a colour I don't have...and I do like my blues.

What a surprise – I have the same ink but have only used it once since I bought it, when it was first released. Time for another outing, methinks.

David.

David, I've found that after the initial "sparkly introduction" when you first put the ink down, the sparkles reduce as you get further through the fill, and the blue is the lovely rich shading blue that you see.

You do still get some sparkly bits though, but I like the ink, it's a bit different.

I agree with David! Your handwriting is very very nice! Maybe the SEF is better for such writing style but i believe your broader nib is much smoother and more pleasant for everyday writer! Mine is a bit more toothy but still i would not say it is scratchy.

Thank you for your kind words!

A long-distance friend told me she found good handwriting attractive. Seriously? Handwriting as a way to meet women? Why wasn't I told this twenty years ago! :P :D

Anyway, that was the inspiration for this line...

TWSBI 580 with a fine Faber Castell Loom nib. It's almost empty (ink is Lamy Dark Lilac) and I'm thinking of putting in a pink next :)

Today I decided to mix up my weapons of war a bit...

Visconti Rembrant - Noodlers Anietam (LOVE this pen!)

Tactile Turn Gist Titanium nib - Iroshizuku Shin-kai (still getting used to titanium nib)

Faber Castell Writink - Diamine Eclipse (wonderful inexpensive pen, highly recommend!)

Levenger True Writer with Faber Castell niib - Noodlers General of the Army (This pen constantly reminds me of armor.)

studying for exams.

He would have had to look that phrase up in a dictionary!!

We were relieved that he picked up his game when he got to university – once I even discovered that he was in the uni library ON A FRIDAY NIGHT :yikes: :yikes:

I assume that he had realised that flunking uni exams would condemn him to semi-permanent residence in the Hotel Mum & Dad.

Cheers,

David.

I was never really taken by these, too bling I thought. Then I was beguiled whilst watching one being crafted at The London Pen Show last year. I was then asked to hold one . . . . Not bling at all. These are sublime!

Wishing you many years of joy with "her" and thank you for taking the time to share. :)

Thanks Tas. I too thought these might be a little too flashy to be practical, but they are in fact a work of art, and craftsmanship is sublime as is the writing, balance, and feel of the pen in hand.
